You've never seen him play. He isn't a dud. If he was playing like he did this year for our side he'd be up in the seniors so quick his arse would be on fire, and not one of us would be against it. That's not to say he's great, but we have a glaring hole that needs filled and he would be an option if acquired cheap.
Then why isn't he playing senior footy with North?

I dunno, North posters would probably know more. I think they've found their structure in the second half of the season, and it's working well for them so they haven't had to change much with they key position players. Edwards is the other one who's found himself on the outer who is half-decent. Maybe there's some attitude issues, plenty of north posters on the their board have alluded to this, so maybe he isn't in the coaches good books. Fact is that he is cracking out constant BOGs in a top 4 VFL side, and every time I see him play he looks too good for that level. Now I'm not saying he's a great player or he's going to be star or even that he'd be a lock for our 22 come they end of next year, but saying he's a dud isn't correct.

I personally think that the one role that Dawes is suited to is the Leigh Brown role.

If we have a look at the big trades that we actually nailed in Jolly and Bally so to speak.

There was a brief mention and nothing more about a week before trade week for Jolly.

Then bang...Tuesday of trade week both Jolly and Bally are mentioned as key Pie trade targets.

It is actually a true statement from SR36 imo
Dawes is not a key forwards toe nail
he cannot mark
If we had another forward he would actually be quite valuable in the 3rd tall/ruckman provided he improves his marking.
His ruck work is ok, id say better than Leigh browns, his around the ground involvements are very intelligent
problem is he battles as a forward where he plays 80% of his game time, he did in 2011 also besides a few good games at the start of the year
People on here over rate dawes as a forward they think his lack of form was due to the ruck, maybe it was a factor, but not one that would effect him holding a mark in his hands
Also leigh browns ruckwork was no better than dawes, only think LB did better was his physicality and occassional flashes of sheer brilliance, that were rare yet game turning non the less.

Actually Jolly was Mentioned the week before Trade Week

I don't think people are forgetting the draft number, I think it's actually the basis for a lot of people's hype without seeing much of the kid play. He's talented obviously, and goes hard, and every time I've watched him play I've been impressed with his strong work around the ball, but I've also been a bit cautious because his disposal hasn't convinced me. I still hope we get him.
The last thing we want is another mid-fielder who can't kick. We may as well have kept Danny Stanley. Now, there's a young inside mid who might have got a game this year. He might have been handy against Kennedy.

That's what I meant perhaps I didn't make it clear enough.

There was a brief mention of it, a week before trade week then nothing more until trade week.

I think it was on the Back Page on a Saturday Herald Sun

I am actually warming to the idea of trading Dawes he can't take an overhead mark and our game plan has been to kick it in long to a contest

My ideal trade week would be

Trade - Wellingham Wood Dawes

Gain - Giles Caddy Pearce

We would probably lose our 1st round pick but this fixes almost every problem and all 3 players are young and can build around

FF/RUCK - Giles plays 65% forward nice grab and can be the 2nd Ruck

HBF - Pearce has nice skills his quick and something we desperately need

MID - Caddy hard inside mid which we need around the contest and has 10 years infront of him

I'm not doubting you but you are aware Collingwoodfc has the final chance to match any carlton offer. carlton despite their average year are a decent team. Adding Cloke probably propells them to genuine top 4 chance and flag contender. Now considering we are also in that same boat, do you think we won't do everything in our power to keep us strong and other contenders weaker?

Irrespective of what we've said to Travis before regarding our offer, it's quite clear we've decided, you bring us your best offer that you are going to accept (unlikely to be Freo, Richmond or Melbourne) and we'll be the ones who decides if you stay or go. It seems odd that a select few players remain uncontracted for us. Perhaps just in case we really need that extra cap space we let a player go to afford Travis.

I'd be shocked if carlton land Cloke purely on a deal that differs from ours, only on the 5th year no performance base and a little more money. If carlton try to secure Travis on a deal not much more then ours, we'll match it. We are not St.Kilda, like Luke Ball saga, and we also have the last reply. Free agency does not allow the inclusion of the contents of brown paper bags to be included in any free agent bid.

carlton get one bid and one bid only under FA. If they really want Trav they'll need to make it a big offer that will most likely do them more harm then good.

Cloke will be ours before the end of October.

Send wellinhgam over back to WA
He is already back in WA at the moment visiting his Dad who i bought my house off. His dad owns his own real estate agency near me and i speak to him quite often. He did say to me that Sharrod was looking at buying a house in WA as an "investment". You can take that any way you want it, i took it as he is looking for an investment, but the fact that he doesn't actually have his own house in Vic and lives with Buddy does sound a bit suss to me but hey.

Hey, I live with a housemate and own a separate house, it's not an uncommon thing.

sounds like he is being smart and buying a house through his old man as a investment and wont have to pay any commissions....

I wasn't saying he was moving to WA i was just letting you guys know thats all. This is a rumour thread after all. I said you can take it any way you want it, it also seems to have popped up at a time when his name is being thrown around as a possible trade

No worries, think he'd be a good trade to be honest. Think Sidebottom and Wellingham are the same type player, to be honest if I were in charge it'd be one or the other. Probably Sidebottom.

Sounds like a convoluted piece of crap!

What are the Wombles up to?

this would be my ideal trade week.

Collingwood trade Sharrod Wellingham and their 4th round pick to Melbourne for their 2nd round pick and Stefan Martin.
(Their 2nd round pick, is in the early 20's)

Collingwood then trade their first round draft pick(pick 16?) for Josh Caddy.

This immediately adresses two key issues, young talent coming through, and 2nd ruck role. Caddy is going to be a star, and would be a natural successor to Luke Ball as Caddy from all reports is an in and under specialist.

This scenario would still leave collingwood with two decent picks in the draft at pick 23 and pick 32. Hine will deliver.
