What if he has been told if the move is to 2 and 2 then we wont be playing 3 tall forwards and it will be a battle between him and Lynch for the ruck/forward position? Or him and Cloke for the forward position? He knows he cant play the ruck/forward role as well as Lynch and he knows he cant play forward as well as CLoke.

IF that's true, then the club has been very, very frank with him when they probably didn't have to be.

On the other hand, Eade has been quoted today as saying that the club hoped Chris could recapture his form as a permanent forward with the arrival of Lynch.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/149074/default.aspx

If he stays, the club believes he has the ability to reverse his 2012 form. "It was a down year for him, but he's only 24 and everyone has some bad years at some stage so we'd like to think with his work rate, like Travis [Cloke], he'll be able to turn that around," football and coaching strategist Rodney Eade told AFL.com.au. "He was asked to fill that second ruck role, which was foreign to him. "Obviously his form wasn't as good as 2010 or 2011 up until he broke his knuckle [in round 15]. "I think playing a foreign position may have had a bit of an impact on him. "His ruck work improved by the end of the year but his main bread and butter is his forward play, so we would like to think that will improve now we've got Lynch."

Dawes is 24, played in the ruck for the first time ever this season and because he had a poor season in this new role we now see him as not an important part of our future?
Dawes is a smart guy who probably overthinks things, it would've been very rough on him the way he was treated by our crowds and supporters during the year and I would think he is a guy who needs his confidence. Now, when he could refresh and look forward to becoming a solid key forward again, we start throwing his name around for a trade.
I don't doubt there is a possibility we could get something good for him. But shouldn't we trust that the guy can become the player we envisioned him to be 12 months ago?

That's not my reading at all. We needed someone who we could depend on to assist Travis as a genuine foil, i.e to take a mark and convert from outside 50, as well as to take a mark on the other wing, in much the same way Travis does if we want to switch play. He can also ruck.

I expect that in that scenario, and with Paine showing some glimpses as a 1st year player, his job security was not exactly red-hot. I reckon Dawes wanted to know where he stood and Buckley didn't serve him up any polly waffle. He probably said you're competing with Lynch and Paine for the ruck/fwd, 2nd forward position.

And as you point out above, if some shit 2/2 sub system comes in, reliability is at a premium. Buckley has to go with the best team we can muster, but at least is giving Dawes the situation straight.

Be handy if he was played in position and not trying to turn into a ruckman.
For what it's worth I hope he stays.
Big forwards are at a premium and any team which gets him is better for it.
Lynch in the Anvil role seems perfect for Dawes, so I'm taking the current talk about moving with a grain of salt...

Spot on. Lynch said one of the reasons he chose pies was the club sold him on the full time ruck/forward role. I just cannot see why we would get Lynch then trade Dawes. Lynch was a good get but at 30 and Dawes only 24/25 it doesent make sense, unless they have a replacement for Dawes and we dont know it. Dawes's manager did say he will meet with a few clubs in the next couple of days to see what options he has, at the blessing of Collingwood. I think the media has taken this as "he wants out" like Wallace said on radio.
As for Wellers, I think he is expendable for his position. If a trade for a pick or player that fills a void at our club then yes. In saying that with Eagles and Freo going cold on him he probably will more than likley stay at the pies.

Yes, but in my opinion, this will come back to bite us. We can't ask for loyalty and taking unders to be part of a premiership side and then so easily kick a guy out who was previous to this year, seen as such a good long term player for us.
It's not smart.

i can't believe pick 4 is even being discussed. if melbourne offer that up i'd be absolutely staggered.

Agree, that's a $#%^ good pick to be waving around, too good.

How many top ten picks ever get traded? Not many..

Freo traded #1 out to Hawthorn for Croad in 2001, didn't work out too well. They made the same mistake in trading for Taz in 2006, we received #8 (Ben Reid) .. Carlton sent out #3 in the Judd deal in '07

I could see Melbourne parting with pick #13 in some sort of deal, if only because their fans are sick of playing kids (and losing) all the time.

Hello Kreuger, back to pot the puppet-master Bucks for chasin away Leon and now Dawes? Mick never lost Scotland any good players. I guess the difference here though is that if we don't line ourselves up for a top forward replacement like Tippett or a top draft pick, WE KEEP HIM, you great nonce! He's signed up.

We hold the aces.

Did I mention Bucks? You seem to have him on your mind 24/7 - blind love does that. Lol yeh lets just let all of our players shop themselves around to see what we can get. That would really create a sense od unity and belonging.

Your right. FWIW I think Bucks has NFI what he is doing. Willing to let Wellingham go when we lack speed, let Dawes go when we finally get a Leigh Brown replacement, pay Leon a pittance after a great season etc. I can go on and on and on and on but Ive said it before.

I'm pretty disappointed with how some of our supporters have treated Dawesy inside and outside Bigfooty.

I feel for the guy, I really do. Hope he stays at the Pies and plays permanent forward so we see the best of him. It's not long ago people were expecting him to be a 70 goal a year forward.

Screw Tippett, screw draft picks, screw trades, I just want big Chris Dawes to stay a Pie.

Terry Wallace suggested pick 4. He is a dooch bag..........

Bucks has said Wellers is a required player, and also a contract has been in front of him for a month. Wellers has chosen to talk to other clubs to see what he can get.......Bucks nor the club can do anything about this.....

That's true on both counts [and don't think anybody took him seriously for a moment really], but the pick 4 talk pick up tonight when Gerard Healy apparently said on 3AW that Melbourne offered it in a discussions with Walsh today.

He's not being kicked out though- Lynch is Leroy's replacement, not his. Lynch might be replacing him in the ruck, but given Dawes never has been, and never will be a ruckman, that's hardly an act of disloyalty.

If we'd gone out and spent big on a high-profile free agent while underpaying loyal stalwarts, then I'd agree with you. In reality, Lynch won't be earning much, and what he does earn will be offset by both Leroy and Taz's departures.

If Dawes wants to explore other opportunities, then that's cool.. he hasn't been stabbed in the back however.

So we should have stuck with this years combination of Cloke and Dawes? We found someone capable of snagging a mark and converting in Lynch and nothing I've seen from the club indicates we have pushed Dawes out, but that he has issues with his opportunities.

It's not us kicking the guy, surely we got Lynch to supplement Dawes and Cloke. And because he's still contracted, I don't imagine we'd be letting him go unless we got an upgrade. If he was to go, I imagine his job tenure and wage would be improved, so I don't see how we'd be fleecing the man.

I could not see Hine and Co letting them both go for pick 4 and as suggested we give up our pick 18, Massive win for Melbourne and i think not a good result for us.....but "in Hine we trust" I guess

I don't really agree with this, we did what was best for the club and recruited Lynch, filling a gaping hole in our list. If Dawes then feels threatened by that (which he really shouldn't be, seeing as Lynch is 29 and he is 24 and a premiership CHF/FF), then there's not a lot the club can do about it. All we have done is allowed Dawes and his management to look around for better offers - do you think we should have refused that to them?

It has nothing to do with how we have treated him.

I hope Dawes stays, I would be pretty mad at the club if he left becuase no way do I believe he would have a problem with Lynch being there. I would choose Dawes over Lynch anyday of the week, it's just disapointing we are about to lose a player who rejected double the money he was being offered 12 months or so ago to remain with the club.

If the club wants loyalty then they have to show abit of loyalty as well, getting a 30 year old to replace a 24 year old loyal man, who I would say is not a bad footballer, is not showing loyalty. Poor form by the club.

:thumbsu: :thumbsu: I am 100% with you on this.

I also think/hope the media are reading too much into this & distorting the situation to create headlines during post season trade period.

Give it a rest. Seriously.

Hugely disappointed about the way we have treated Chris Dawes, and it has led me to lose a lot of enthusiasm for our club. Don't really understand what they are trying to do. I actually hope Dawes goes to another team and sticks it up the Pies now. Losing a lot of affection for the club.

I want us to win a premiership the right way, not treat people like shit on the way.

I do think the reason he is not certain about his role is because next year we will move to 2 and 2 sub and interchange and that means teams will have to be very confident in their big forwards to play 3 together.
Totally agree, what the fk is going on down there, get in a 30yr old to squeeze out a 24yr old who was playing a foreign role to him all year? Get dawes at ff, cloke at chf and lynch can pinch hit. No reason why dawes has to leave in my opinon.
Geez they thrust side by side down our throat then they fk over a premiership player who was played out of position all year. If he is forced out i would be livid with buckley and the club.
