I don't believe a second first ruck move is warranted atm, Jols is very durable and will certainly see out the year barring unforeseen injury next year.
.

I have a feeling that we'll pick up another big body (eg Martin) IF we trade Dawes because Jolly has 12-24 months left, maximum, while Lynch will only play another 2-3 years as well.

Jolls has been durable, but IMO he plays much better when he gets regular breaks to replenish during the season- reading between the lines on Eade's comments on him for 2012, it sounds like the club were rapt with his performances (rightly so too), but do not want to have to put him through such a heavy workload again.

Ideally, I think Jolls might play 15-16 H&A games next season, aiming to peak in September- meaning Lynch and (insert name here) will carry the ruck duties in those games. We could gamble with Witts/Ceglar, but only the inner-circle will know how close they really are to playing senior footy. Come 2015, we'll probably be without Jolly and Lynch.. we'll need three ruckman in the right age group, especially given Dawes willl presumably be gone too.

We have Witts and Ceglar and there Belief on them Playing Next Year will see how we Trade

Will these kids help us to win the premiership next year or the following? Probably not I would have thought?

Well if there Mids - i reckon they Could

I think it would be a smart idea to stock up with young guns to keep our window open longer.
What's this window bullshit? We're Collingwood, we don't have a premiership window, we have one of these;

Or maybe one of these;

Just load the premiership cups in here, fellas!

The problem is we already have Wood clogging up the rucking list holding Witts, Ceglar etc, we need to start getting an odd game or two into them.

True, but Wood is goneski, whether it be now or in 12 months. There are two windows in play, season 2013, and season 2015 and beyond. Come 2015, we're going to need more than Ceglar and Witts on the list- if Dawes goes, and Jolly and Lynch retire, we won't have any other ruckmen or forward/rucks. We'll need at least one more option. We could wait 12 months, or even 24, but we'll have to spend (via trade or by drafting) on a tall eventually.

If Martin (or someone similar) is cheap, I wouldn't mind having a look, especially if Dawes goes. The bonus is that at his age, he can help us both in 2013, as well as 2015 and beyond.

I see where you're leading and agree the future can't be totally ignored because we are in our window and I wouldn't be totally adverse to picking up a round 2 pick big bodied adult ruck to help take the load from Jols.

However

3 picks in the first round for a team that has been a flag contender for years are just too much of a golden opportunity to be ignored, armed with three sub 20 picks Hine and Rendell could effectively extend our window for another 2 or 3 years.

I agree with you, I'd like to keep the picks (generally speaking) too- we haven't had a first rounder since 2008, and I'd rather follow Geelong's model than St Kilda's. How many first/second rounders we end up with is completely up-in-the-air at present though- depends on the number and nature of the trades that we end up making.

I'd just be surprised if Martin's name is not brought into any Dawes-to-Melbourne trade, given that Lynch is really Leroy's replacement, not Dawesey's himself (despite what he may think!).

Yep no use counting chicks until they hatch.

I just wanna know who thought it would be a good idea to make trade week bloody 3 weeks!
It was 2 weeks last year right?

I think if anything last week has shown that it is likely free agency will make it easier to get seasoned players for a couple of years. We can replace Lynch (and Jolly if needs be) through free agency when we need to.
