Wouldn't Melbourne rather get a younger better Reid than Dawes?

You would think so, but you have to consider that Dawes can* do the ruck relief role.

Also have to factor into the equation that Sam would want to play with Ben if he was going to go anywhere.

Who can actually jump and catch the footy? Reid
Who can read the footy in the air? Reid
Who is more mobile? Reid
Who is quicker? Reid
Who is more likely to take a pack mark? Reid
Who is the better kick? I'll go Dawes with this one
Who is stronger? Dawes again
Who is more likely to kick a bag of goals? Reid

Getting Reid is pie in the sky stuff, but certainly will make up for the loss of Dawes.

ben reid couldnt kick too when he first started, maybe the reids kicking improves with age. cloke kicked 59 this year, if we can snare reid he will be good for 30-40 goals and also allow travis more 1 on 1 contests because reid is such a threat in the air.
we should be pushing this trade with everything. there is no way sydney can satisfy adelaide withour a third party and we can be a major player here with wellingham and dawes picks.

Actually Reid couldn't kick for goal when he first started and he still can't. It's far more of a mental thing. Don't recall many issues with his field kicking.

We couldn't. If there is any chance of it whatsoever then at minimum we would have to give up both Dawes and Wellingham and on trade whatever we get in order to get Reid.

Terry Wallace seems to think Wellingham is worth a pick in the late 20's. Yet he said a bit earlier that Mitch Brown could get to the Saints with a pick around 20.

Early this year when he was starting a 5 year contract, that is. Hardly changes the debate (or whatever you want to call it) that's going on here.

There is about a 1% chance of us picking up Sam Reid. Forget about it, not going to happen. Sydney would be mad to give him up 1 year into a 5 year deal, and Sydney are far from mad.

I've got a feeling Dawes will stay, we might pick up Young and end up with picks 18 and 19 after Wellingham gets to the Eagles.
