So sorry NT, I would think it would mainly be on the draft but Buckley has so far shown he has his own ideas about recruiting so I wouldn't be in the least surprised if he took any opportunity that may arise to suit his plans.

I just feel he has a game plan in mind that this current side isn't quite able to execute in the way that he wants. Buckley was an incisive and destructive (to the opposition) player in his playing days and I see no reason for him to change that attitude as a coach.

The side he inherited was talented in its way, young and vibrant for the most part but essentially reactive and defence first moulded, this wouldn't align well with Bucks mentality IMHO.
Yeah I understand where you're coming from. I must say I am excited this pre-season that we are being active in topping up our list. At this stage our structure hasnt really changed and we have gone like for like, having improved on each trade whilst adding quality picks.

Not sure I'm happy with the Tom Hickey thing really. I don't see him as a significant upgrade on Wood just yet, maybe in the future but I havent lost faith in Wood coming good eventually. Maybe I have mental issues saying that! * Disclaimer, this wasn't meant to insult those with mental issues.

There was a rumour at Carlton last week that they were looking at doing a similar deal for Parker themselves I think- for pick 15 approx.

Edit- pick 11.. forgot they finished so low!
How could you forget, SOS??? It was one of my best season highlights!!

Why though? He's 21, we already have a 21 year old in Ceglar and a 20 year old in Witts. We do not need another young ruckman. We should be looking for a older ruckman who can back up for a few years before these boys fully come along. If we trade Pick 21 for Hickey I will be pissed.

As for Wood, SIGN FIRST THING TOMORROW. But, if we don't pick up a viable second ruck I believe that he should be kept for depth as much as I hate to say it.

In all seriousness... Jokes aside. What do you think we can get for Wood? Maybe a pick in the 40's? Considering he was pick 14 only 3 years ago.
In which case, if we got a pick in the 40's for him what would we do with it? I dont think we would use it.

Unfortunately for us the rest of the footballing world isn't blind m8, all they would see is an unfocussed and soft witches hat running around and waiting for the first ruck to fall into his hands.

I'm astonished that Richmond are considering making an offer.

We do not need another underweight project ruck who will take several years to develop (we have had those for years).
We need a solid number 2 ruck, who can stand up if the big J goes down.
McIntosh would have been the ideal type to provide cover between Jolly & Witts/Celgar.
Looks like Mr Wood may get one last crack (he is 26 next year), now or never.

Just on Hickey: have any of you seen much of him?

I just remember him a bit from the Suns game this year. From what I remember, he seemed to be a decent mark around the ground but was often muscled out of the way by Wood in the ruck contests.

And as far as us being into him, my main question would be this:
Even with another preseason to put on more kgs, would he be much different to the most similar player on our list - Ceglar?

You would be thinking of Alex Johnson not Nick Smith :thumbsu:
Johnson was mainly on Gunston. Smith is the one that crucifies the small forwards like Rioli

Give Richmond Wood and a pick in the 70s.
Just flat out give them to 'em. Ask for nothing in return. Sign the contract, jump in a cab, and get the hell out outta there
You gave me a good chuckle or, in modern-speak, a bit of a LOL. He reached his peak when we thought he had just started developing. The Brisbane Bears must love doing business with us after also gifting them Mal Michael and pick 22 for Jarrod Molloy .

Wood and 42 and maybe 48 for pick 34? It will leave Tigers with picks 9, 32, 42,43,48 and their next pick is at 74. Leaves us with 18, 19, 21 and 34. Will we use any more than these 4? Then if we r looking at hickey- 21 and 34 for hickey and 26? - leaves us with hickey, 18, 19, 26 and maybe 48 if we hold into it?

Call me crazy but I would throw in all 3 first round picks for Reid. The only worry is if Collingwood can pay his 5 year contract. I think Reid would be the perfect player to play along side Cloke. Reid is more of an aerialist (excellent overhead mark) would be a good combo to have with Cloke's push my opponent out of the way style of marking.

Your own words condemn you.

Wood's best game is the one he played against us in his Brisbane days, in his first or second year in the game. He beat Fraser or whoever we had against him and got a few possessions. His other best game was in his early years with us versus Sydney against Jolly and Everett. He also had another best game which I think was against the Bulldogs when he got 25 possessions, and that was also early in his career with us.

He was an early achiever and everything in his sporting life since has been an anti-climax. Just face it, you do have mental issues.

Hickey is a good young ruckman.

He beat Wood when we played them in 2012.

I think people are overrating Ceglar a fair bit. How many of these promising young rucks actually turn out to be AFL quality? I think Witts is more likely to play 100 + games for Collingwood.

Hickey; 201cm & 90kg. 12 games.

I think pick 21 is a bit much.

I think Wood looks great when he gets his hands to the ball in the ruck. He is one of the best in terms of knowing where to tap it and often taps it to clear advantage. Unfortunately we only get to see it against GWS novice like rucks and any half decent ruckman will smash him in hitouts because Wood does not have the strength to match most ruckmen. He was also a liability around the ground this year. I think in 2011 he was much better around the ground and took some nice marks and even kicked a few goals. The best ruckman firstly have to be able to win a few hit outs and Wood simply cant do this even against average rucks.

Cameron wood isnt our future ruck.
If collingwood want to get serious, there are a few names floating about,i believe maybe a better option,
Seaby,ok isnt your everyday monster ruck, but has experience and goes in for it,trent west, needed for rucking not shots on goal. They are 2 i reckon may offer more than wood.
This year vfl,i watched vfl standard players slaughter cam wood. Now how is he suppose to gain match fitness/confidence if he cant make it at vfl level.
Stefen martin,id look at,even a cam pederson.
Just please collingwood lets get serious now, wood has more than had his chances,he doesnt or wont hit that next level.

Well, at least I don't need to change my username......

But Wood did have a very good game against the GC which coincidentally was against.....Hickey!

Has Hickey had injury problems?

I'm just trying to figure out why he's only played 12 games in two seasons in a club that has been below competitive in both seasons.

He was never even considered for selection ahead of Zac Smith at all from what I can recall.

If we trade pick 21 for him, it smells a little of our trade for Wood a few years back.
