Hickey is a good young ruckman.

He beat Wood when we played them in 2012.

I think people are overrating Ceglar a fair bit. How many of these promising young rucks actually turn out to be AFL quality? I think Witts is more likely to play 100 + games for Collingwood.

Hickey; 201cm & 90kg. 12 games.

I think pick 21 is a bit much.

Don't get to watch Ceglar play so have no idea where he is, but age and size comparison to Hickey seems about right. Anyone care to compare the two?

Where has the talk about Hickey suddenly come back from? A Facebook page that has consistently been 3 steps behind for the past two weeks

Walsh ruled us out late last week end of story. With Witts and Ceglar on the list Hickey as a 3rd developing ruckman in the same age group is just overkill!

Has Hickey had injury problems?

I'm just trying to figure out why he's only played 12 games in two seasons in a club that has been below competitive in both seasons.

He was never even considered for selection ahead of Zac Smith at all from what I can recall.

If we trade pick 21 for him, it smells a little of our trade for Wood a few years back.

Even above Zac Smith. Smith is a great prospect.

Really hope we stay away from Hickey

Would be better to keep Wood for 1 more year as insurance and then wait for Ceglar or Witts to come on and if they don't go for a established Ruck next year

I just 'Liked' keeping Woody around for insurance...excuse me, I need a shower....

Wood and 42 and maybe 48 for pick 34?
Leave out #48 and I think that's about right. An 8-pick upgrade isn't much in the 2nd-3rd round. Would get us ahead of North Melbourne in the draft order too.

NT.Thunder is correct: According to the Herald Sun, when Collingwood played GC, 'Cameron Wood, a late replacement for Darren Jolly, played one of his best games with 23 disposals and 25 hit-outs.' We absolutely do not want Hickey!

Ralphy saying there is a trde involving two of our first rounders now. Just sit tight fellas, bit more to play out here.
Tippet.........:D

BF would have a collective spew and Sticks would call for a International Court of Inquiry.

Just checked the stats.

For Hickey 19 disposals, 24 hit-outs, 0 goals, 8 marks, 4 tackles, 4 FF, 1 FA. Age 21

For Wood 23 disposals, 25 hit-outs, 1 goal, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 1 FF, 1 FA. Age 25.

Not much difference in the bald stats. The big difference is age, weight and the fact GC are shit to the nth degree, so naturally Wood is flattered.

Doesn't mean Hickey will be better of course, still hot on Martin, but if the club sees potential and there's nothing sexy at late 1st round, won't be devo.

That said, still need a ruck for my money and would prefer to expend later pick for a Currie or similar.

Hickey seems like one of those late start to footy types that have a lot of talent but are really raw. His kicking style is rough and honestly looks like he just picked up the ball a couple of seasons ago. Still quite skinny as well, and moves a bit awkwardly. I just don't see how he'd be a good fit at this stage.
Perhaps Hine just doesn't rate the draft, or really rates Hickey, or is disappointed with Ceglar's development. Or a combination of those.

Surely we can't be willing to hand over a top 20 pick for another unproven young ruck when we've got two coming through and have been burnt before. Unless the Pies are looking to get a package deal of Hickey with Toy and/or something. I'd rather we play a role in the Saints getting Hickey with us turning one of first round picks into pick 13. Sort of pick pick 13 for pick 20 plus picks 42 &/or 48. I'm quiet happy for us to use all three of our first round picks, but would like to see us use our other picks (42 & 48) to try to move up the draft order.

If Richmond want Wood I'm happy for us to give them Wood and pick 48 in exchange for pick 100.

Back to the Swans, I don't think they'll completely ream the Crows. Swans use a heavy trading strategy and burning a potential trading partner when there's only 17 out there is a bad move. I don't think Parker will be let go for Tippett, but I can't really think of another young talent outside their 22 who we'd be able to get that we'd use a top 20 pick on. I would hand over our top 20 pick for a small defender that can shut down the elite small forwards of the comp.

And as for the Swans TPP when you look at their list try to name a player that you would call an elite superstar that could be argued as top 5 or even top 10 in the entire comp. I can't think of one. They have a number of superstars, but they don't boast a player you'd consider the best or 2nd best in their respective position. I'm not surprised they've got the money for a guy like Tippett.

Then Nick Smith would be the player on our radars. Don't think the Swans would want to part with him though.

Would love to see him get a shot in the AFL. Poor bloke just couldn't get a break with injuries. Apparently falling over the edge of a call up and his back or foot would flare again. Too big, too soon methinks.

I would hate to think how good you guys would be if you'd drafted well 7-8 years ago- you've really picked up in that area since 2008-9.

Please send your ruck talent identification scout down this way ASAP- we'd even settle for an instructional pamphlet.

That's because he did just pick the footy up a couple of seasons ago. He only started playing in his late teens. Last year (2011) was his first real 'season' of AFL footy in general. He barely understood the rules 24 months ago. The amount of ground he has covered has been quite astounding.

I read above, someone asked why Hickey hasn't played much. He hasn't been injured, the answer is just that he wasn't ready to play AFL footy. However, due to injuries to all of our rucks, Hickey was forced into senior footy way earlier than what would have been ideal. He's still incredibly raw, not to mention skinny, but he was the only guy we had left. His upside however is huge, and definitely has the potential to be a gun ruck.

As to why the Pies would be interested in him, I have no idea. If they even are. They continue to be linked to him despite Walsh saying that they won't be going after him on the interwebz.

I hope the club doesnt try and get Hickey.

Wood is a better option to step in the side next year to provide relief to Jolly.

Witts will play some senior games next year as well. We have Lynch now who can provide relief to Jolly and Paine can play as the deep forward when this happens.

Collingwood should pick up an established ruckman next year in the Free Agency period depending on who comes out of contract.

Really hoping we use our 3 first round picks on some genuine young talent. Pick up another Beams etc for the next generation of midfielders. Then someone with blistering pace who can kick goals.
