Sorry bloke, but you're not the source that I've been taking too much notice of...I mean you were expecting pick #4 from Melbourne for Dawes so I just sort of zoned out from there.

Yes you're right though that this does seem highly unlikely but I'm still willing to keep an open mind. The beauty is if we don't secure Reid we may very well still have 3 first round picks to play with which is exciting none the less.

You keep plugging away though dude!

Hey Thunder would be nice if it did happen though............Would habve been more likely if Reid hadn't signed a 5 yaer deal .
Really when you think about it the brothers do want to play together and Sam now is a premiership player and the yearning to come home could......Well you never know.

Hypothetically what would happen if Sam reid cracked it and told Sydney he wants to go home, after hearing now that Tippett wants top go to Sydney?

Funnier things have happened look at Dawse after we acquired Qstick.

That's an interesting point raised here! During the initial stages of Tippett identifying Sydney as his club of preference i did read a couple of tweets saying that some Sydney players werent happy with the clubs decision to pursue him and that he was obviously not seen as a required player given they had just won a premiership. I just sort of brushed it off but maybe Reid has spat the Dawes....I mean dummy and does feel threatened. Not sure why as I rate Reid a better player than what Tippett is. Interesting point though!

Well it would make no sense for them to trade Sam Reid

I actually thought it would make no sense for us to trade Dawes either....but then we picked up Q-Stick!

We wanted to keep Dawes but he had a Sook and Left

hey guys, sorry to intrude on your thread.

i just cant see sydney letting reid go, we are trying to improve are forward line with tip, and loosing reid will really be a step back, his got a lot of promise, just signed a 5 year contract, won a premiership. highly unlikely he will leave yet alone for picks 18 and 19, i think he would be worth more than that.

Jolly = Established premiership ruckman requiring no U18 extrapolation of future worth. That is an MM / Walsh trade decision that was literally a no brainer. I'm not counting him for or against Hine any more than I'd count Chris Bryan or Leigh Brown as a fail or success.

Wood has failed, but is literally Hine's best choice to date.

Witts looks the goods in terms of potental, but you can't have expected a 18cm growth spurt in his draft year. As it stands, Witts was injured in his first draftable year and we didn't draft him. We were fortunate that we managed to wrangle him on another year under the scholarship banner which is nearer to dumb luck than good recruiting of a future big bodied ruckman.

Ceglar is chronically skinny. I doubt he will ever get over this. A Hine string bean special.

David Fanning was badly balanced and a string bean, rookied directly from basketball.

Thoolen was a raw athlete with KP ruck capabilities who was simply terrible.

If you believe rumours, we were heavily interested in Shaun Hampson, whos is at least built, but again an athlete rather than a footballer. Why the love for these athletes first type that are almost invariably a let down?

If the Hickey rumour is true, then it's yet another raw athlete type. I just don't get the facination with these types at all!

Was Fanning a Hine call? I thought he would of been Judkins?

Tippet will be huge for you guys if you get him. He'll improve your forward line and he's also a quality 2nd ruck, so he'll improve your midfield rotation by meaning you don't have to play the Canadian and thus get to play an extra midfielder.

Exuse my ignornace but how does replacing one ruckman/forward with another ruckman/forward result in the Swans getting an extra midfielder in the rotations?

Touch unfair.

Cameron Wood was a fail yes.
Jolly = huge success!!!
Ceglar definitely looks a player.
Witts ditto.
Leigh Brown, while not a pure ruckman, was a pretty good move.
Figjam had a good point IMO. Jolly was already established and a premiership ruckman so no skill in that pick at all. Witts was a NSW rookie recomended by Rod Carter so not much skill from Hine in accepting that low cost recomendedation. I doubt Brown was actually recruited to ruck and in any event he was poor at it. Ceglar hasn't shown much as a ruckman IMO.

Hard to know how much to attribute to Hine and how much to attribute to MMs desire to make a ruckman out of players who can play elsewhere but are ordinary in the ruck.

I think because when Tippett needs a rest from his ruck stint stays on the ground and he goes forward, whereas Pyke probably has to be removed from the ground ( though his GF display may make that less likely)
Hence, you can rest a mid with Tippett staying out there, but not so with the Canadian. ( in theory)

Anyone sane knows this already, unfortunately this period seems to bring out the clueless

never feel sorry for dropping in for some well considered comment, or even light banter.

unlike some boards we do welcome visitors at all times, to any thread.
And afterwards, we eat them!

Not sure it would play out that way. From what I saw Pyke was playing a lot of minutes in the forwardline towards the end of the year and was getting better every game.

If Tippett ends up at the swans he will most likely play as a permanent forward. I can't see him playing much in the ruck unless Mummy or Pyke are out injured.

Yep who knows..
Be a nice problem to have if they get Tippett and add him to the other two.

Must not look too good if they are trying to get Hickey who is the same age and is a wippett sized ruck himself.

Tippet is a quality forward and will play significantly more minutes than Pyke plays.

who said we are trying to get hickey? it was just a dumb rumour that walsh squashed.

That is what I'm saying IF the club were indeed after Hickey then it shows a lack of faith in both Cegs and Witts as they are the same age grp/exp, why not let them debut and see how they go just as big a gamble as Hickey.

Don't mean to be argumentative but I don't see how that has anything to do with increasing the Swans midfield rotations? The rucks arent exactly going to rotate with a midfielder it just means they will share the ruck/forward/bench role between themselves e.g.

Mumford 60% ruck 20% bench 10% forward
Pyke 30% ruck 30% forward 40% bench
Tippett 80% forward 10% ruck 10% bench

The above splits are debatable but i dont see how it impacts the midfield rotations?
