This is about the size of it. Free agency has a knock on effect. Just like if we lose Thomkas we will be out hunting someone with $500k burning a hole in our pocket.

If Thomas goes to the Hawks (or Carlton) then I hope he is plagued with ankle and other chronic injuries for whatever time remains of his career. Given how little football he has played over the last 2 years, he owes us big time. And why do you have to tease us with the 'you'd be shocked' bit? If you know, tell us, or say nothing at all, but don't come on here and taunt us in this way.

My least favourite teams are Hawthorn and Carlton. I would just about hang myself from the beech tree in my backyard if Thomas ever plays for either team. At the very best, I would wish upon Thomas the absolute worst of bad luck and misfortune if he joins either Hawthorn or the scum.

I am sorry, but I don't wish you the best of luck in the finals or at any other time. I hope you choke again like last year, but this time, well before the grand final.

Swan was gone too..and pendlebury was off to gws..cloke was leaving too..all I heard about cloke went like this "I have a mate whose brothers friends cousin says trav will definitely be at Carlton in 2013.".the love affair with mick will sway him to Carlton..beams is gone too.

Blah blah blah...heArd it all before and I don't care who anyone's sources are because 99% of people wouldn't have a clue and I don't care who they know..

I think daisy will stay but if he doesn't that's ok too, he needs to make a living and he'll always be a collingwood premiership player to me.

Spot on... Everyone loves to say Collingwood players are leaving. It guarantees readers as Pies supporters will obviously be interested and every Collingwood hater out there wants to hear that we are losing one of our stars.

If you were putting money on it, you'd have to say Daisy will stay.

Although Buddy is a phenomenon the Hawks still have enough firepower to lose him and remain a contender, particularly if they forgo the compo and chase big free agents. It is a bit of a fork in the road situation as you can justifiably choose to load up and make the most of the last 2-3 good years of their old warriors or start a mini-rebuild while they're around to shape and lead the next core top end talent to come through.

From the games I've seen this year the Hawks still rely heavily on Mitchell (31), Hodge (29) and Lewis (27) when the game is on the line. They're coming to the end and when you add in Sewell (29), Burgoyne (31), Guerra (31) and Lake (31) you would think the Hawks have up until 2015 before needing a major rebuild. Alternatively they could look at StKilda and the Dogs and choose to start making corrective action now by chasing draft picks a bit like what we did last year.

The other option is that they protect their compensation from Buddy going and trading for players instead. Give up their first round pick (~16) to protect what should be a Ablett/Sculley like Compo or at worst slightly better than Goddard (pick 12 iirc).

I'm unsure about him. Kicking great, speed is just the same as the rest of our mids. I would only entertain a FA if daisy stays. I would not want to compromise our drafting position by picking up a FA.
To have 2-3 more potential top ten picks and a mi to early second rounder to add to Grundy, Kennedy,broomhead,, Ramsay, josh Thomas, elliott, seedsman, Williams and other younger players in fasolo, sidey, beams (and potential rookies in dwyer, frost and martin) will compliment the likes of pendles, and other core players. Add darcy moore, next year and fill in holes with FA, if the development is right it bodes well for the future.

Dal Santo has a clause in his contract right? So if we want him we'll have to trade for him i.e. he isn't a FA

How much money does Daisy 'need to make a living?' Don't we pay him enough to make a living? You might feel the same about Daisy if he plays with Carlton, but I won't fel too positive towards him. Of, course, he is only leaving Collingwood because he needs to make a living! I guess Malthouse thought the same thing when he agreed to coach Carlton, after saying that he could never coach against his boys.

Got some more room on that beech tree in your backyard????

Unfortunately that team with the worst guernsey in world sport are the best team going around. I just hope Freo can choke them to death in the GF and we never have to put up with them in another finals series for eternity. For the life of me, I can't see how they can be under the salary cap, particularly with all the players they have lured from the poorer clubs with obviously 'more money' offers.

Was a great pity they didn't sink in 1996, like I'd hoped.

Alas,life can be cruel.

Not all were offered more money
Burgoyne for one was paid higher at Port than he has ever been with us
Hale was actually paid by Norf for the early part of his time with us
They were "lured" by the opportunity to play at a great club with the hope of success

To say its a great pity we didn't sink in 1996, well that's your opinion, albeit a pretty poor one
