According to Andrew Jarman on The Game, Luke Darcy is going home and joining the crows. Although initially I just thought it was just an attempt by Jarman to get his name in the papers (and personally I don't hold much respect for what comes out of his mouth), the more I think about it, the more realistic the nightmare becomes. If it were true, it would spell the end of my beloved Western Bulldogs Football Club (where are those cheers coming from?). We have developed Darcy for 8 years, and now, as soon as Wynd retires and Darcy has the opportunity to become one of the premier ruckman in the league, he could leave to spearhead a Crows outfit who will be probably looking for another ruckman after offloading Rehn to Hawthorn. The loss of both of our best ruckman in a year will leave us very vulnerable in the midfield, therefore taking away our ONE major strength, ineviatably leaving us languishing at the bottom for the next few years. Whether we have the financial capacity to cope when things aren't going well on the field is another story. I mean, we are even struggling to survive when things ARE going well on the field.
Can someone please tell me that I'm the biggest paranoid dickhead in the world.

Andrew Jarman, like Karl Langdon, like Brian Taylor make a career out of spinning bullshit.

I wouldn't believe anything that came out of their mouths.

At this time of year you always hear rumours about players going here and there. Yet when the trading period actually arrives you generally find that hardly anyone good makes a move.

I wouldn't worry too much about Darcy to the Crows rumours. Or too many other rumours for that matter. How many of them turn out to be true? If Darcy really wanted to go home, firstly, the whispers would've started months ago (like with Fraser Gehrig) and secondly, some sort of deal would need to be struck between the Doggies and the Crows. Don't lose any sleep over what Jarman says.

jaffa- i think you left out adrian barich from your list.
That guy reads the back page of the paper, or watches the footy show, and then comes on the radio in the morning, spouting his big scoop which we all already know.

WA ppl, will know what a d*ckhead he is.

Westy Boy,

I don't know my South Australian geography but I read somewhere that he is from Roxby Downs and that is nowhere near Adelaide at all.

Apparently Darcy is happy in Melbourne, playing with the club his Dad played for and has no reason to leave.

Whether the Crows offer him more money is an entirely different question.

But Luke's dad, Dave Darcy was also a stalwart of South Adelaide - the club Luke came from.

Anyway FWIW, the Bullies should have more room in their salary cap than the C---s after Scott Wynd's retirement. I expect he'll stay with the Dogs.

Check out this story from the AFL website which is dated June 10, 1998:

Of the players they list in an imaginary team, all but two are still at the same club two years later!

Another ruckman is actually one thing we don’t need. Fortunately, the Crows have been blessed with ruck depth. Still, Darcy would be a great acquisition and a trade for Clarke could be arranged. I’m sure Darcy would make a great forward line combination with Holland – the other big player supposedly coming our way.

I love these hypothetical trades.
