G’day everyone, Brett Hill here, the man behind the Enviable Tradition name.
I have long held an interest in standing for the PAFC board and can confirm that this year I have decided to nominate and my nomination has been accepted and encouraged by the club.
Yes, I’ve been involved in forthright supporter discussion here and elsewhere over the years, including ideas that have appeared on The Black and White Noise and I think that right now strong membership voices are very important.
So why am I standing?
In simple terms, I believe Port Adelaide is at its best when it has real clarity about who it is, what it stands for, and why it exists. For me, that purpose is clear: winning premierships for its members.
The current board has done an outstanding job fixing the club financially and clearing historic debt. That work mattered, and it deserves respect. With that foundation now in place, I think the next phase is about making sure football success, identity and standards remain the permanent priority, not just for one season, but for the long term.
I’m not running to fight the board, destabilise the club, or push a single issue. I’m running to help strengthen what’s already been rebuilt.
A bit about my background, without the fluff:
I’ve been President of the state chiropractic association, worked as a lecturer, and sit on the Finance Committee of the Australian Chiropractic College. I’ve spent a long time in organisations where governance, culture, budgets and people actually matter, and where boards have to get the balance right between strategy and staying out of the weeds. I’ve also done formal governance and risk training, because I believe boards should be well prepared for the responsibility they carry.
Importantly, I haven’t just turned up now. I am a lifelong supporter and member who goes to all our home games with my Dad who is a 50+ year member (we were both foundation AFL members and you can find our names on the honour board at Alberton). Over recent years I’ve been active as a member in communicating with board directors and others at the club, including the CEO, around governance, identity and long-term direction. I have attended AGM's and asked questions around governance and member control. Always respectfully, always constructively, and always with the club’s best interests in mind.
What I’m actually campaigning for:
• football-first standards and decision-making at board level
• grounding the club in the Creed and a clear Port Adelaide identity
• a majority of member-elected directors alongside strong skills-based appointments
• better, structured connection between the board and members, without turning everything into noise or conflict
I come from outside the AFL bubble. I think that’s a strength. My background is in building organisations that stay aligned to purpose over time, not just during moments of pressure.
Now the important bit.
I’m asking for your support, but one vote alone won’t be enough.
If you agree with the direction I’m putting forward, I need your help in three ways:
1. Please vote for me when voting opens.
2. Encourage your friends and family who are members to vote, and to vote for me.
3. Share this message in other supporter spaces you’re part of, Facebook groups, interstate supporter groups, group chats, anywhere Port people gather who might not be on BigFooty.
This isn’t about factions, personalities or online point-scoring. It’s about Port Adelaide being strong, aligned and ruthless in its pursuit of success.
I’m happy to answer genuine questions here or via DM. My focus is on contributing constructively and respectfully to the club we all care about.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for caring enough about Port to get this far.
Brett
