How is Tom Jonas allowed to run for the board?

From the club's email dated 2nd December 2025.

Nominations must be proposed by a 2025 financial member and seconded by a minimum of five (5) other 2025 financial members. As per Clause 12.4 of the Constitution, a person cannot be appointed as a Director if he or she is an accredited player manager or an employee, officer, registered official or player of the AFL or SANFL or an AFL or SANFL Club or a member of any other AFL Club or SANFL Club. All nominees will be required to provide with their nomination up to a 250-word profile in support of the nomination.

Tom works/worked part time for the club 1) with corporates and Chairman's club and 2) with the past players group. My understanding is that he gets paid for 1 and 2 is basically a voluntary non paid position.

Now if he puts in an invoice via a business entity then he isn't an employee of the club. But if he gets a PAYG Summary from the club at the end of the financial year then he doesn't meet the above requirement. Maybe Tom no longer works for the club, or the gig is only during footy season.

Also I believe that the names of other candidates will not be made public by the club until late January. Nice of Tom and mates at the club to announce it via the official AFL broadcaster's news service a week ago.

As far as I know, if someone nominates by the end of the nomination date, they can via their own social media channels and others channels announce they are running and its not against any rules.

The waterskiing stuff wasn't because they were waterskiing, it was because we'd blown 4 seasons in a row and they were thoroughly unserious about winning. Then, they had a crack at the fans for expecting them to be focused on trying to turn things around.

And these were the two frontrunners to be our captain.

The 2015-2019 period was worse than 2010-2012 in every way that matters.

IMO Jonas epitomised what the club became during the worst years of the hinkley era (a mere facsimile of what it once was), and as for his `living the best life' BS and his unnecessary comments about club members and supporters I'm hoping the end result of that will be a big  from the majority of those eligible to vote!

When he was eventually dropped to the Maggies after 5 or 6 absolute Barry Crocker AFL games in a row he was still consistently lead to the ball by sanfl journeymen that no one had ever heard of, and when he was reinstated with zero form at the lower level he was immediately targeted by oppo coaches as the weakest link in the Power defence, and exposed!

Well said. That whole situation was legitimately staggering.

The fact it was blatantly obvious he was absolutely cooked and didn’t relinquish the captaincy, let alone retire.

The fact it was blatantly obvious he was absolutely cooked and wasn’t tapped on the shoulder at least 12 months before the bullet was bit.

Just a gilded bubble of self-deluded matey mates and their surrogate dad who never wanted the good times — or pay packets — to end, and took ludicrous offence when members, past players and fans alike suggested it might be time to look long and hard in the mirror given how often the team was chewed up and spat out in Showdowns, finals, and by anyone remotely good.

Given Carr is in the thick of fumigating the joint of that putrid culture, the last thing he needs on the board is one of its giddy architects speaking as a past player.

Honestly Id have 22, 23 and 24 below 15-18. I actually didnt mind 15-18.

I still remember when that extension got announced it was like seeing a car crash unfold in slow motion.

Regardless of any of the above, his footballing ability (or the lack there of) wouldn't necessarily make him a poor board member, but I believe the last thing the club needs is yet another `yes man' plant installed in one way or another by kokhead, but unfortunately that is what we will probably get.
Yeah, probably could remove Jonas's name and put Cassisi in and say the same thing. The club us older supporters were lucky enough to witness has fallen a great way. Many reasons for this, they have tried to, and at this stage have successfully pulled us apart via who governed/governs us and the board as a whole.

Most of us I think realise that until we get proper control ( as much as you can in the AFL) of our club again we will most likely stay as we are and not have the killer attitude we once had.

The 2022-2025 period was comfortably worse, with 2025 being the worst year in our history IMO. Although I think we probably still had hope that we'd hold a coach accountable like a normal footy club in the 2015-19 period. Nobody could have known we were going to do something unprecedented in the field of mediocrity, although I was already very annoyed at the 2017 extension.

unfortunately Jonas will get in

No doubt he will be up against a couple of random nobodies and the happy clappers will be gushing all over Jonas in a popularity contest

...and we get yet another Koch plant yes man on the board

Only if we let it happen. Wait and see who else is running and what their campaign is and help spread the word in your network.

Bang on. We don't have to let it happen. The likes of Koch would love us to think it's a fait accompi.

Hopefully we get a decent alternative candidate.

I feel like I preferred 2025 because of all the off-field stuff. I mean compared to the absolute hopelessness we were in since 2019 if not earlier, in 2025 we've been able to know 100% that we're finally getting a fresh start. It definitely made the season a completely pointless waste of time, did massive damage to the playing group, and hurt list management, but at least as a fan its been easy not to invest, knowing that wins and losses were completely irrelevant - we had no draft picks, no chance of achieving anything... just as a massive collective counting down the hours for a year until the parasite was finally removed. I'd take that over the rage and disappointment I had from 2019-2024 any day of the week.

I still consider 2019 to be by far our worst ever AFL season. The fact that we not only destroyed a promising list while destroying the captaincy tradition, but it was also the year that the cult truly doubled down and started actively hating fans. It divided the club in a way we are still recovering from.

2004 > 1997 > 2014 > 2002 > 2013 > 1998 > 1999 > 2001 > 2003 > 2025 > 2000 > 2005 > 2006 > 2015 > 2017 > 2016 > 2010 > 2012 > 2011 > 2009 > 2008 > 2018 > 2020 > 2007 > 2022 > 2021 > 2024 >>>>>>>> 2023 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2019

If McGovern missed I suspect 2017 would be a lot higher for me.

Edit: Also I'm focused entirely on Port here - so I'm not rating seasons lower just because the Cats/Tingles/Weagles won them.
