Running into the umpire rule

This rule is the biggest bullshit rule in the book.
Last night fletcher eyes for the ball.
Umpire running backwards into a pack not look where he was going.
And they collide

Fletcher one of if not the most honorable and fair player in the league, could not have possbily intented to come in contact with the umpire.
My opinoin is unless its a reportable offence to let the game go on.
Like in the western bulldogs game this rule was implemented at a vital stage of the game.

As a basketball umpire pointed out to me today, in that sport the umpire is considered "part of the court", if accidental contact is made, there is no penalty to the player involved. I think this is a fairer system than the one that is in force in the AFL.

It should be interesting to see if Fletcher cops a tribunal visit, highly likely considering a precendent has been set with the not too dissimilar Todd Curley incident.

Fletcher will have a right to feel pissed off if this eventuates.

I wish like mad that Fletcher is not reported, but if he isn't we will know there is an agenda against the Bulldogs. (actually we know that already).
