How do you know what type of foot you have?

I went to foot locker wanting to try out that machine but she just looked at the way i walked and suggested the most expensive shoe on the rack.

Did i get gibbed?

Do you mean foot locker or the athlete's foot?? If you are having problems see a podiatrist. If you go to TAF get an experienced assistant. In Adelaide we have a fantastic shop called Jogger's World, really know their stuff. YOu can also do an internet search and get a mate to watch from behind as you walk along!! (Cheaper option :)

I bought a pair of Mizuno's from The Athlete's foot - I tried out that machine and also they watched the way I walked - they gave me a whole range of running shoes to try with varying price ranges. No pressure to buy to the most expensive. I bought mine for around $130.00

ya know, if you didn't get offered a go on the 'Fit Print' and they didn't put the 'Fit Print Offered' Code on your receipt, you're entitled to 50% off your next pair of shoes.

No shit.

Probably shouldn't tell you that but there you go. Have a look on your receipt. :)

I've found asics have changed a bit recently, I tend to go for something like Asics foundation or evolution as I need the support. But haven't liked the newer models. My current shoes are NB 1223. Pretty impressed!

Yeah they have changed a bit recently with this new 'IGS' (Impact Guidance System) technology they are pushing, it's essentially just a ramping up of existing components but it has changed to feel of some of the older models from what I've been told.

Try a Gel 3000 though aye, not quite as supportive as a Foundation or Evolution but they are really nice shoes.

I've stuck with Adidas running shoes my whole running career. I would definitely recommend any of the Supernova series, they offer everything you need. They're comfortable, have lots of support and aren't too heavy.

Another place for those in Melbourne town is Active Feet in Prahran, Heathmont & Camberwell. Not cheap, but the staff are all trained pods and they analyse your gait as you run on their treadmill and play it back to you, showing you all stages of the footstrike.

You're getting a podiatry service and a new pair of shoes in one, so paying full retail doesn't seem so bad when the service is so spot on. I visited them when trying to get back into running after 10 weeks off with stress fractures and whilst they put me in top end shoes (Kayano 13's - cushy but too heavy and f$^k all durability), I know exactly what I needed thereafter and have purchased training shoes and racing flats on their recomendation (midfoot pronator), mostly online from the US or at factory outlets.

Yeah i dug up the receipt but it doesnt say saything about 50% off. How could i prove it?

Another great shop run by a very passionate bloke ie Runners World in Kew. They have a lot of variety, and the guy running it knows what he is talking about.

It's more important about whether it says anything about 'Fit Print' on the receipt. If not, call up the store you got your shoes at and ask about the 'Fit Print Guarantee', if they didn't put anything on your receipt about it you may well be able to wrangle a discount out of them.

Brooks are the best :thumbsu:

Athlete's Foot would be your best bet if you live in SA. Their foot technology thingo is pretty good.

Bulky and heavy, but the cushioning and support is top notch. I'm seriously considering another pair for the price, but the Zoom Elites might get the nod subject to availability. They've just released the 11's, but it's the 10's that I purchased. If you're 75-80 kg + (which isn't me) they're absolute gold, less than that and you may find them to be too much shoe. But on the whole, a definite :thumbsu: for those who pronate and now they're going cheap, they're a great buy.

Thanks for the review.

I am around 85kg so they sound like a good buy considering they were $84.

Asics Kayano 14

Has Gel Throughout the shoe for comfort and support best runner around

Come into an A-Mart Allsports and get it for $239.99

Hey BJJ or anyone in the know

Im sure you Athlete Foot folks know your footy boots

I was looking at the Jim Kidd catalogue in the West and saw Aasic Gel Lethal Grip II boots http://www.biziworks.com.au/biziworks/BiziGen?ownerID=SPRING88&docID=249

Are they any good? They would have good arch support like most Aasics im guessing? I need very good arch support due to shin splints

I currently have these http://www.olympussports.com.au/pic.php?ID=179 GEL LETHAL 8's. Would these Grips be better?

Thanks mate

Personally i find the best shoes that fit my feet and feel most comfortable is NIKE. they are great to run in and last a long time. I use them for pre season training and nearly anything thats got anything to do with running. :thumbsu:

hey im a big guy that suffers from shin splints regularly what do people think would be the best siut for me?

Get yourself a pair of Technology runners. They are a much lighter shoe and have more cushioning and are more shock resistant. Therefore will help you with your shin splints. If you see some with what looks to be crappy material, don't be so dissmissive as they use things like Kevlar (used in bullet proof vests) in them now to ensure they are strong and won't fall apart on you.

They range from $75 upwards. As the old adage goes, you get what you pay for.

Comes down to your preference really, the grips have more a mid sole obviously which will increase the cushioning and probably the support compared to a more conventional boot. I haven't worn them but I think they'd probably feel a bit bulkier but yeah if your battling with shin splints, additional medial support can definitely help.

The Gel Lethal range have a strong following but really footy boots are even more a personal choice shoe than runners, so your better off trying out a few different ones and seeing what feels best. Consider getting some supportive insoles too, or find a shoe that accommodates your orthotics the best, if you wear those, no use playing with shin splints aye!

Cheers buddy

I checked them out and they don't really feel any different to what I already have so I gave them a miss. I do indeed has supportive insoles, would be buggered without them.

Shin splints are a bastard but i've just learnt to manage them really. I'm never going to avoid them. Luckily my footy club has an Eagles trainer who does some rub downs...he is magic

I have used both Asics and Brooks and lean a bit towards Brooks. I agree that they take longer to wear in but I find they are more comfortable to run in once this is done.

Another great piece of advice I received from a mate who has run over 10 marathons is to not skimp on socks. I bought a pair of Korlos (??) which were fairly dear but they are like running on cushions. Ended up buying about 4 pair, much to my wifes dismay :D
