Best game - Rnd 8 v Brisbane Lions, 2002. Banged through 3 little beauties, one went through the window of live wire, hillarious. The one and only Rupert Betheras.

Should make a banner, Round 22, this season, BRING BACK RUPE, PLEASE COME BACK!!!

I mean how can BK, Willo, Shokan Lokan and Mckee still be playing at the highest level and RUPE can't!!!!
It's just not right!
It can't and should not happen!!!

I'm still at a loss to figure out why Rupe was delisted, he played well. Although, Ben Kinnear has played a few good games, and before injuring his ankle last year showed some improvement.

Yes, but that doesn't explain the axing of Rupe.

I remember that injury to Goughy, wasnt he on crutches after the game and in tears. Suspected broken leg or something along those lines?

Yeah, against Brisbane, he broke (or fractured) his leg, all the players went over him after the win.

I have got those details on my bedroom wall, cut out from the Sunday Herald Sun the next day.

Jarrad Molloy had ankle trouble during the week and had an injection, I was watching the game last night for a matter of fact, Jarrad Molloy ended up coming on and off the bench.

Michael Voss and Nathan Buckley were ready for a great night, until he got an elbow in the face from Jonathan Brown, got back up and fell back down, but was great aswell.

Mark McGough fractured his leg in a great 1% er, but then ended the night on crutches.

Rupert Betheras was subperb, here is how it went for me.

My Votes -
5. C.Tarrant (COLL)
4. N.Buckley (COLL)
3. Michael Voss (BRIS)
2. Nigel Lappin (BRIS)
1. Rubert Betheras (COLL)

The Stats:
C.TARRANT - 15 Kicks, 18 Disp, 10 Marks, 5 Frees, 5 Goals 3 Beh, 181 Ranking Pts
N.BUCKLEY - 19 Kicks, 12 H/Bs, 31 Disp, 9 Clearances, 2 goals, 175 Ranking Pts

Rupe is, was, and always will be a legond. My favourite player of recent years and while he is out of the club, we hang on to hacks such as BK, Lokan and Williams. BRING BACK RUPE!!!

Best Games: vs Lions 2002, Port 2002, Adelaide 2002...too many to mention.

RUPE, RUPE, RUPE, RUPE!!!!

OH WHAT A....RUPE!!!

RUPERT BETHERAS - Came to Collingwood as a rookie listed player in 1999, to then immediately become a Senior Player. He was recruited from the Fremantle Rookies, after playing with East Perth and Da La Salle.

Rupert made his debut in 1999 for the Magpies against West Coast in Round 3 at a mature age of 23 years old. wearing the number 49 guernsey, he soon was dropped after 3 games, until regaining his spot in the side, playing the remaining 13 games of the season as a consistant performer, winning the clubs best first year player.

Betheras had an amazing season in 2000, playing all 22 games as a half back / midfielder. He showed his hard and tough work around the ball, and found the hard ball and burst through packs. He had played 35 consecutive games.

In 2001 he played his first game at Round 3, losing his streak of games, he struggled, to only play 14 games for the season.

In 2002, He helped Collingwood by playing a big part in some major games, showing his strength. He played 24 games, missing the Round 21 clash against the Saints, but fought his way back in the side the next week to play some finals football. He kicked 14 goals for the season, including 3 against the Lions in Round 8, and two each in the finals against Adelaide and Port Adelaide. He played in the Grand Final and was alright, but not outstanding.

In 2003, he struggled to find a senior spot, as the team had found quite a handy line-up. Betheras only played 9 games, kicking 6 goals, including 3 goals against the Western Bulldogs, he didn't play a finals game, with his last game in Round 18 v Geelong. Betheras was named Emergency 7 times for the season, spending most of his time down at Williamstown. At years end, Collingwood delisted him at 27 years old.

In 2004 he played games in the Northern Territory, kicking bags of goals to then be considered to come back to Williamstown, which he made his return for the Seagulls.

Rupert Betheras's Career Statistics:
Games: 85
Goals: 35
Kicks: 606
Marks: 289
Handballs: 591
Disposals: 1197
Tackles: 142
Frees For: 71
Frees Against: 58

Lonie_From_50's Betheras Bests:

1. Rnd 8 v Brisbane, 2002 - Came out and played a brilliant game, kicking 3 matchwinning goals and had 22 diposals and 4 tackles.

2. Rnd 12 v Adelaide, 1999 - Only his 6th career game, Betheras had 28 touches and kicked 2 goals in a tight game, that Collingwood unfortunately lost.

3. Rnd 13 V St Kilda, 1999 - Following 28 touches in Adelaide the week before he racked up 27 touches and showed that he was a great first year player, he also kicked a goal to help the side to it's second win of the season.
