Rush: going back on the road

So Geddy and Alex have no more ideas about how to spend their time and have decided to tour Rush music for a short tour. Obviously will sound different without Neil. They've chosen a girl who drummed for Jeff Beck so she's got to be good. I've heard they may have a keyboards person as well. That would make sense and I'm sure Geddy doesn't need to do all that extra work at his age. Alex has had arthritis issues so hope they can manage that.
Overall I'm sure it will be top quality, but it won't be Rush, more of an evening of Rush music. I think it would be more interesting if the two have come up with some original music that does not sound like Rush. Their solo work to my ears has a very different sound and vibe. Maybe a 30 minute set of new stuff, followed by a surprising selection of Rush + old workhorses to end the show.

I'm sure she's a gun but you're right, not a real Rush tour of course. Some drummers can be replaced and no one cares, Peart is irreplaceable, would be like if Tool lost Danny Carey and tried to continue.

I am pleased that they are touring again, all be it with a different drummer but I would still go if they ever came to Australia. I would miss Peart dearly though as he was a huge influence on me taking up drumming, even though I suck at it.

Never got to see them live but been a huge fan since the early 90's, so I hope they tour Australia. Did get a good taste of live Rush music with the tribute band, Moodlifters fairly recently. Definitley recommend seeing them if they came back to Australia.

I do agree that they could have continued their musical journey as a pairing (not under Rush). A bit like Plant & Page (Led Zepplin) during the 90's

Bands are allowed to continue to make a living, If people really have an issue with who isn't or is on stage then they won't sell tickets and the tours don't happen.

Rush are one of the more interesting bands I have gone down the rabbit hole on, a lot of great stuff and a great logo.

Surprised they are not more well known, it seems most of Australia don't know they even exist.

Not only Rush but also UFO, didn't sound like the interviewer knew them either. But yeah, I only discovered Rush about 20 years ago, basically because so many metal bands talk about them so had to check them out.

Rush are similar to Tool in some ways, both basically a 3 piece, both play prog music and both bands are incredibly talented musically but i don't think they ever go over people's heads, well for the most part anyway.

A year or so after Neil's passing I'd have had reservations about this, but it feels right now. You can never replace someone like Neil Peart, not as a player nor a lyricist, but that music needs to be played and if Geddy and Alex are happy then I'm happy. One of my great regrets is not seeing them play live.

It is strange Rush never tried, never toured Australia. They were a very popular but still niche band here, until their movie documentary and Rock Hall induction later on in their careers, which brought them wider acceptance. They didn’t exactly get a ton of radio play at the beginning so they built their audience in America touring endlessly from the mid 1970s onward. They’ve always sold out hockey arenas here in NY since 1980. Ironically Freewill just popped on the radio.


The 4 MSG shows in NY next year, tickets will be expensive and difficult to get. Rush is like the mirror image of AFL. Well known in one place, unknown in the other. I talk endlessly about footy to folks here and no one knows what I’m talking about, except one fella who did his physio residency in Melbourne!

I believe they did try with the Presto album in Australia, but nothing eventuated. Probably because the record company did not want to invest the money in promoting the band into Australia.
