Really JR may still need to develop a little further a very good apprenticeship is still needed from him!! really copped a football lesson today!!

A few weeks ago Ratten said that players are on notice and that several will find themselves in the 2s if they dont pull the finger out. All I ask is that we play a month without Russel in the team. If at the end of the month we notice that we cant live without him then bring him back in and all the Russel lovers can tell us " I told you so." I am willing to bet that he wont be the difference in our wins and that he wont be promoted after a loss.

Simpson struggled today but i don't think i remember any instance where he backed out of a contest, could be wrong though.

I thought Simpson did some magic things today. I was quite happy with him overall.

I'm thinking if JR ever is dropped it might just be the end for him. Maybe the MC think the same.

Does anyone really give a shit? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the kid succeed...seems like a decent enough bloke. But, if he's not up to senior level AFL football, then cut him loose!

As much as I'd love to see him prove people wrong, he really is a walking turnover. :thumbsd:

Well if a player (not just talking about JR here) loses all form of ability and confidence to play AFL if they get dropped to the VFL, they are clearly not mentally strong enough to play AFL footy ...

FFS St.Kilda dropped Dal Santo (and another big name player, can't remember who though) to the VFL, and that was an ephinany moment for Dal, he's played sensational football ever since, esp this year.

Russell has to cop his medicine at Cramer St, and if he doesn't come back, well meh, it's not exactly a big loss now is it ???
If he isn't dropped this week, then that will be finally the straw that breaks the camel's back with Ratten, and he should be replaced at the end of the season, if he cannot make the right, the tough and the correct calls by dropping players who don't deserve to be playing in the one's right now.

Getting excited about the Ants today. Should be a few who put up their hands
I recall yesterday JR moving with his opponent. The ball goes behind both. JR stops in his tracks and his opp quickly changes direction, gets the ball and explodes away resulting in a goal. After the kicks to the boundary umpire etc I am over the bloke

Here we go, the whole team (bar one or two) are playing rubbish football, yet we still get a thread started on one particular player.

A typically moronic thread that gets started when we aren't playing well.
It's pathetic how ten other players play deplorable games, yet Russell gets the blame for everything.

Judd would have almost been in our worsts, yet there's nothing said about him.

EddieB as I said before I have not been a JR basher but I have hit the point of no return with him now. He was not the only 1 who was crap I agree but I think another person deserves a look in!

I can't believe he's played every game this year, granted we have injuries but even Robinson was dropped ahead of JR.

And 21 last year. Unless you are adopting a blooding selection philosophy (which I favour despite the unrest it could cause on the list) there is nothing wrong with dropping the kids after a few games (eg Yarran after WCE, unless he puts in a blinder) - they are far from perfect remember.

Seriously time to let go of this type of posting. He has been very average to bad 3 weeks in a row. Sat's game was the clincher...he is the weakest link right now and deserves time in the 2s.

No one is saying he cant come back - tho some are def hoping he cant come back.

Where is Gilly and TG - Russell's knights in shining armour...love to hear their opinion right now! Stand up and say something Gilly!

I'm a definitely Russell backer and am not ashamed to say that. I will be the first to say that JR had a sub standard performance yesterday and could be due for a run in the Ants. The thing that pisses me off is how he gets singled out continually, its gotten to the point where its just dumb.

Yes, he was shit yesterday and likely deserves to be dropped, but it doesn't need a new thread every week regardless of how he performs. There was plenty of other terrible players yesterday, alot of the 'Russell backers' just want a bit of impartiality when it comes to player evaluation.

He has played 59 games, been on our list for almost 5 years and he continues to make shit decisions, his disposal errors have always been shocking. No improvement in the basic and yet you all think he needs another chance? He is shit, and he has has had plenty of chances. Pack your bags JR, thanks for nothing and good luck in the future. It's a disgrace that he continues to get a game with no signs of improvement, I would rather we start concentrating on the likes of Yarran etc. At least Yarran showed his skills are 100% better than this dud who has been on our list for 5 years.

I'm not normally a Russell hater either, one thing i do notice is that he does just as many good things in a game as bad things. However yesterday was one of his worse, was nowhere near knights on several occassions, hence the 5 goals.

He wasnt alone though thats for sure, IMO Steven Browne and Dennis Armfield showed a skill level and decision making that wouldnt have them in the top 10 on any team in the under 18's comp.

In saying this however, Chris Judd himself said at the start of the year that there were going to be games like this, if anyone is to blame for how angry we all get over these games it is ourselves, as its our own expectations that have been blown so far out of proportion. Get used to it this year but next season and the season after in particular are when this sort of game should be very rare occurances.

But it's all JR's fault, didn't you know? And apparently it is a requirement of this board that we get reminded of his faults on a weekly basis, and that the knife gets stuck into him by the same culprits over, and over, and over, and over............

As Carlton supporters, we apparently have a responsibility to regularly spew vitriol and venom at a player or two, especially when we are not going well. And I must say, we are very, very good at it from what I have seen on this messageboard.

It's pathetic and embarrassing.

+1 nice post

It's a disgrace that you continue to spew **** at one of our own players. It shows a complete lack of class and absolutely no maturity.

If you dislike the player so much, why don't you grow a set of ***** and go down to training and tell him what you think about him to his face and stop hiding behind the anonymity of a messageboard?

I'd also like to know - when JR gets dropped, who will your vendetta switch to? I mean, we have to have someone to blame and vilify when we don't do well, don't we?

Will it be Nick "soft" Stevens I wonder? Or are there other candidates we should know about?

Yeah don't worry there is a lot of dead wood at Carlton. And you are the disgrace if you continue to support mediocrity. Continue to support the shit we are getting dished up, your pathetic.

Exactly. He didn't stick to Knights whatsoever, hence his large amount of space and, like you said, his 5 goals. But Russell, as dismal as he was, wasn't the only player who was shocking yesterday. However, he seriously needs to be dropped. He has played 3 or so shockers in a row, and therefore NEEDS a run in the 2's. I know some of you have said the MC thinks it may be the end for him if he is dropped, but displays like that are not acceptable. If he wants to make it, drop him, and let him dominate the VFL and show he's a class above there. If not, then I'm afraid we may have to cut our losses and run with him.
