Round 2 - Pre Match List Update

List Update

Corey Warner will run out for the first time this AFL season with senior coach John Longmire making just one change to his lineup. The Sydney Swans will face Essendon at the SCG this Saturday night in the hopes of securing a third consecutive win.

The versatile Robbie Fox will sit out of this week's clash with the Bombers due to a minor calf injury.

Warner was recruited with pick 40 of the 2021 AFL Draft and made his debut in Round 5 of the 2023 season kicking a goal against Richmond. He made two more appearances last season in Round 11 and Round 18.

The Swans have enjoyed a strong start to 2024 with convincing wins over Melbourne and Collingwood. Despite the impressive efforts against two top sides, Longmire is not underestimating a strong Bombers outfit. Sydney Swans

This really highlights how quickly injuries can affect your 22. Almost all midfield depth is gone.

It also highlights the importance of having players who can play multiple positions

Round 2 - Post Match List Update

Scoring

Good to see scores for 2 consecutive weeks above 100 points.

Injury - Early Prognosis

Cunningham is recovering well after being concussed against Essendon but he will miss the clash with the Tigers. Adams and Fox both face fitness tests before Sunday, although Adams might not be rushed back given he'll only recommence team training this week. Parker's broken arm will be re-assessed by a specialist again in two weeks. - Martin Smith

Great that we're scoring, but disappointing that we let in over 100 points too. Lots of goals is more entertaining but I think Horse would like it better if we knocked 50 points off each side.
I think I commented something similar in another thread, but Essendon were perhaps always going to be a problem for us scoreboard-wise. They score quite heavily from centre bounces and centre bounces are probably the one area of the game we're not doing so well at the moment.

Maybe it's actually a positive that we managed to play our own game and rather comfortably beat a side that theoretically could've posed real problems for us.

Round 3 - Post Match List Update

Injury - Early Prognosis

Rampe is set to be out for up to a month after suffering a hamstring injury against the Tigers. Adams played two-and-a-half quarters in the VFL last week and coach John Longmire has indicated he'll make his AFL debut for the club if he gets through training this week. Cunningham is a test as he progresses through concussion protocols, while midfielders Parker and Sheldrick are closing in on full fitness. Reid only played a half in the VFL last week due to a tight quad as he continues to work back to top fitness. Jack Buller should be considered for selection this week after missing the opening weeks of the season. - Martin Smith

Round 4 - Pre Match List Update

Sydney ruckman Brodie Grundy is relishing his looming reunion with Taylor Adams when the "contested animal" makes his debut for the Swans.
Adams will return from a knee injury and appear in Swans colours with Grundy in Saturday's Gather Round clash against West Coast in Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills.
Grundy and Adams formed an at-times dominant partnership when both were at Collingwood, and the ruckman is keen for a rapid reprise.

"We haven't connected on-field for a while now, 12 months or so, longer," Grundy told reporters on Friday.
"But yeah, obviously we have some history there and played some good footy together.
"I'm looking forward to having him in the midfield, for sure.
"He has been waiting a little while now, he's super excited.
"He has played over 200 games and what he brings to our midfield, that experienced head, he's a contested animal who loves to compete.
"I'm sure the Swans fans are going to enjoy what he has to bring tomorrow."

Adams has overcome a knee injury, while Harry Cunningham returns from concussion suffered in a Peter Wright blow that earnt the Essendon forward a four-game ban.
The duo replace hamstring victim Dane Rampe and the axed Corey Warner.

Caleb Mitchell is the sub.

Round 4 - Post Match List Update

With no fresh injuries from the win over West Coast, the Swans head into the bye in reasonably good health. Parker could be back for the game against Gold Coast in round six, while Sheldrick should also be back to full fitness by then. Rampe will miss the Suns game but should be ready to face the Hawks in round seven or the Giants the week after. - Martin Smith

Round 5 - Post Bye List Update

Injury - Early Prognosis

Parker is still another week away, at least, after breaking his arm in the pre-season, while Rampe will also miss again as he recovers from a hamstring issue. There's still no exact timeframe for Mills, with the club saying only he'll be back mid-season. - Martin Smith

Round 6 - Pre Game List Update

After a bye in Round 5 the Sydney Swans are back at the SCG this Sunday when they go head-to-head with the Gold Coast Suns. Senior coach John Longmire has confirmed his final 22 with Sam Wicks to return.

Brodie Grundy will run out in his 200th career game having made his debut for Collingwood in 2013 while also playey 17 games at Melbourne before joining Sydney this season.

Meanwhile up-and-coming tall forward Logan McDonald will play his 50th career game after he was recruited to the Swans in the 2020 AFL Draft. The 22-year-old has been a key target up forward this season booting 11 majors in five games.

Campbell is the sub.

Round 6 - Post Game List Update

Early prognosis

All eyes at training this week will be on Parker, who will need clearance from a surgeon in order to play his first game of the season after breaking his arm in February. Rampe was an outside chance to play this week but will instead look ahead to the clash against Greater Western Sydney in round eight. Nick Blakey (ankle) and Tom McCartin (knee) were both able to play out the game on Sunday and Lewis Melican was subbed out late after appearing to cop a knock in the final quarter, but all three have been cleared of injuries. – Martin Smith
