Molloy farewells Magpies

Collingwood has started pruning its senior squad just days after the club's second successive grand final defeat, with experienced duo Jarrod Molloy and Rupert Betheras finishing their careers at the club.

Molloy, 27, announced his retirement from all levels of football to teammates yesterday, and Betheras, 27, was told to look elsewhere if he wished to continue at league level.

Neither Molloy nor Betheras was selected in Collingwood's grand final 22, although both played in the team that fell nine points short of Brisbane in 2002.

Rup couldn't get into our side this year, and I'm not sure he would be able to get back, with all the talent we have coming through.
