But I feel for Basil. Strikes me as a nice guy stuck doing a well-paid but essentially crappy job.

It only appears crappy because he approaches it so clumsily.

He's an an eagle sycophant no doubt, but I don't think he's particularly malicious, it's just that his attempts at humour often don't come off.

Basil is what bigfooty might refer to as an "absolute silly" who is a died in the wool Eagles supporter who hates Freo. Can't stand having him commentating or doing special comments at our games.

Basil is a dick, and a first class one at that

Met him have you?

I have and he was genuinely nice. Went out of his way to come over and see how me and a few other guy's were going and had a little chat. We were sitting around outside an event he was MC at waiting to go in. I fully expected him just to walk past and ignore us, like many in his position would and have done, but he surprised me and earn't my respect.

You may not agree or be happy with everything he say's but your comment leaves a lot to be desired.

I like Crowley. Tagging is an art. Annoying, but a good tagger is worth a fortune. He's the best at what he does. Given what he does is stop the best players playign well people will dislike that. But the best is still the best.

I have, more than once. Geoff is right, he is a dick of the highest order. The bloke actually believes he is some kind of authority on football strategy. I saw Tom Harley burn him at a function last year a Docklands which was hilarious. He tried to inject himself into a conversation on how to quell Gablett's influence and Tom politely told him that he knew shit. It was gold!

I have nothing against Crowley, yes he may give a block/bump or two off the ball and occasionally niggle the player a bit but name one (Successful) tagger that doesn't?

His the best tagger in the game and I am sure all 18 coaches would want him in their side.

Besides pinchgate (And we really don't know if that happened for certain) I can't remember Crowley going to the tribunal for any offences and if he was half as bad as everyone makes him out to be he would probably have at least 3 or 4 suspensions by now.

If Geelong played in the Grand Final the joke among some players was "who'll be picking up Crowley"? Answer: "The trainer about 5 minutes into the first QTR"!

Well I hope they had fun playing dress ups this week.

That joke doesn't work because why would anyone pick up Crowley?

Which gets us back on track of what this thread is about atm...in the GF, will any HFC player do something about Crowley attaching himself to Mitchell like a flea to a canine.

Because if they don't do anything to him and Freo win...it will be talked about forever. How gutless Hawk players failed to rattle the beast.

We're taking bets on the moment/time someone tries to take him out and/or betting on no one having a serious crack at all during the game. A neutral person will judge whether the attempt is hard enough.

I'm going 15mins 1st qrt...give em time to pick the right moment.

It's going to be absolutely fascinating to watch, I hope Hodge knocks him out.

So if I get you right you are saying that Hawthorne does not have sufficient footy skills to break Crowley's tag and will lose the match if they do not "take Crowley out"

That is disrespectful to the Hawks who are going in as favorites and minor premiers. Even I, as a freo fan, find this insulting.

If they do resort to thuggery as you said, took Crowley out and win it WILL be talked about forever.

It's not really an art, it's called taking responsibility for your direct opponent. People have become so accustomed to the free wheeling nature of midfielders (often thanks to zone defence) that they've lost the appreciation of simple man to man football.

I'm not much a fan of Ryan Crowley off the field nor on it, but he's damn good at his job. In a strange sense of the term, it is somewhat refreshing to see "taggers" make these midfielders accountable for their performance. If the contest wasn't taking place in the midfield he'd simply be referred to as a defender.

Would be so funny of Crowley ran through Hodge as a result of the talk about someone running through him.

I am tipping Crowley to have a fantastic game by the way, and should be a smokey for the Norm. In a low scoring game as GFs often are, if he can kick a goal or two and take a playmaker out of the contest he'd be a chance.
