Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

Gamble has been dropped from the Geelong squad for the upcoming thursday clash with Collingwood after a quiet game against Richmond in which he had 9 disposals

Players on the fringe cannot afford to have quiet games or get suspended as it is too hard for them to regain a position in the team. Ie. Ryan Gamble after his undisciplined head contact against Essendon last year.

Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

Like who? Gamble is a small forward. Guys like Owen, Hogan and Djekurra have been playing through the middle or down back - if someone like Dog or Stokes went down with an injury next season, Gamble would be a natural replacement.

clearly your not a supporter when the delisted owen at the end of last season tosser i say keep gamble because mooney only has 2 more years left but he has to prove him self from now to then gamble good luck m8

Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

^^^ That was pretty funny!

On Gamble nowadays... do you think Geelong have given up on him? He's really not getting many chances. Delist, trade, or keep at year's end?

Sorry, we already gave you Prismall for free, dont be greedy now.

He's a keeper

Give you another late second round pick!? :) As much as I'd love him in red and black, it was more of a player interest question than a scout.

I like the way the guy plays, adds a few sparks to a game - I hope they don't try and slap his high flying out of him too much...

Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

just reading the AFL site

looks like he is getting itchy feet, not sure why else his manager would be out in the media talking him up

OUT-OF-FAVOUR Geelong forward Ryan Gamble is likely to be among a host of trade targets in coming weeks with the Cats yet to lock in the young goalkicker.

Gamble has played just 24 career matches in four seasons at the Cats, and while looking promising in his time, mostly as a forward, he has been unable to establish himself in the senior line-up during Geelong’s recent dominant era.

Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

Gamble's biggest problem is that we have so many other players ahead of him who can play in the forward line, so unless someone else requests a trade at season's end he ain't getting a game, and from what I've seen in the VFL, while he tries super hard, he's just not a defender and will never make it as one. Therefore he's best off moving to a club where he can get a regular game as a 3rd tall forward type and I think he'll go ok.

Sad to lose good depth like him and Djerrkura etc but that's what the cap is designed to do...both parties have an amicable parting of ways and move on.

That sums it up in one sentence. We seem to have an abundance of players who could slot comfortably into the forward flank/pocket position. I could see both Duncan and Menzel fitting into the forward line well ahead of Gamble.

Gamble needs to pursue his career elsewhere.

I agree...unfortunately there's no opportunities up forward, and I don't think he can be a defender, while he's been admirable at it in the VFL. Hopefully we can trade him for a decent return because I reckon he could still be a player.

Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

Sorry to intrude on your board Cats fans, but a question...

What would be your scouting report outside of 184cm forward from wherever before playing at Glenelg?

Why I ask? Heard a rumour that pending Geelong's pursuit of another ruckman they'll help complete a three-way trade with Adelaide and Carlton by acquiring Sellars from the Crows. Adelaide gets Jacobs while Carlton gets Gamble and the Crows second round selection.

Obviously I'm looking for a first round pick for Sauce, but can you help soothe the pain?

Gamble is a ok player, was great in 2008 but has fallen away since. High leaping 3rd forward, great mark and mobile, lacks defensive pressure. Have tried to remould him at HB and he won our (VFL) B&F this year.

In regards to Adelaide, I don't understand what you mean.

I can see why we would trade him back home, but what does this have to do with ruckman? While we need a ruckman, Adelaide don't have a quality ruckman we would want, so unless you're somehow convincing Jacobs to come to Geelong, I don't see how that would happen...Sellar is no better than Trent West or Dawson Simpson.

We'll just throw Gamble for a mid/late pick, or throw him in with a mackie trade if that eventuates, with adelaide, I can't see how it will assist us ruck wise.

Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

The rumour was

To Geelong: James Sellar
To Adelaide: Sam Jacobs
To Carlton: Adelaide's 2nd round pick + Ryan Gamble

I tend to agree with your assessment of Sellars - not good enough. Interesting that Gamble got played off of HB. We need both a marking option as a forward and good disposal off the backline from a player of Gamble's height (why we've been linked to McKinley as well as your team).

The only thing this indicates to me is that Carlton and Adelaide are going to have difficulty in coming to an agreement on a Jacobs trade without involving a third team.

On a side note, BrizzyBlue (reliable source of info) on our board (to the point where he's currently being called Greg Swann) links Geelong to Jacobs. Jacobs is good but he cant be guaranteed playing time with Carlton having three solid ruckman as well as Jacobs. I think if you can forgive Jacobs of his deficiencies he's a star tap ruckman. H

Re: No 15 Ryan Gamble

Agree, Sellar for Gamble is fair as they are both fringe players, but we need a ruckman, and Sellar is crap at that.

Unless they are thinking of Sellar as a key back given we don't have much depth in that area, then it makes no sense to me.

Jacobs would make more sense as we have a desperate need for a ruckman.

TBH, if we could get a ruckman that was more athletic, such as Cox, Clark etc, we would prefer that, but Jacobs is decent and we might consider him if we can't get rucks like that. But if he wants to go home I can't see the point.

Sounds like a third team will be needed if Adelaide are giving up a pick for Tambling as I doubt they'll give up 14.
