Rossy Wyon on Gamble:

He said Gamble could play a role in a reconstructed St Kilda forward line in 2011 that will include Sam Gilbert in attack, and Lyon hopes this will make the Saints even more dangerous in attack next year.

"We are going to reconstruct our front half,'' he said.

When (Sam) Gilbert went to the front half, he turned those Grand Finals around ... We see Gamble paying in the front half as well. You look at Kosi (Justin Koschitzke) and (Rhys) Stanley in the ruck, and (Nick) Riewoldt and Gilbert forward.

"We see Gamble coming out of an elite system. They have got a really good teaching environment (at Geelong). He is really well schooled."

"Matt Clape couldn't get a game in the great West Coast sides, but then he went to Carlton and had a few good years," Lyon said.

"That sat in our mind (when discussing whether to take Gamble).

So we took Gamble on the newly-created Matthew Clape principle...I like how Ross Lyon spins bullshit for the fun of it all...

Now let's not be too hard on Vegas as he's got a difficult choice. Either follow the Saints or change his user name. Tough call!

You jest yes?

Follow 'Saints footy', or...er....anything else....yep....tough call there :D

who's the celebrity woman Gamble is hitched too?

Vegas has a GF? And a celebrity at that?

(Byrnesy doesn't count ;))

You jest yes?

Um! Think so. I'm trying really hard to restrict my smilies out of respect for Catempire. :) Bugger! I've done it again.

I hope he goes well there. I think he still has a lot to offer the game.

Good luck

This should give please you Fozz. Still reckon if they get a dozen games out of him they'll do well. Another Charlie Gardner.

And herein lies the reason they can't win a flag. Not enough quality kids coming through becasue they waste picks on players like Gamble and Polo. Do the names, Charlie Gardiner, Adam Pattison, Jesse Smith, Andrew Lovett, Brett Peake, Colm Begely do i need to go on mean anything. They have taken the spots of at least eight kids they could have been developing (like we have been doing).

I don't understand the Saints recruiting really.

Why would you delist Eddy then pick up Polo?

The Saints have some really good top tier players but a lot of these recycled players are what keep letting them down in the grand final.
Polo is better than Eddy and Gamble was a freeby-nothing lost. Gamble will be a winner for Saints, may get to play for a start, and then play in his correct position. Saints will likely play off for another GF next year.

Wow! And training for some teams has only just started. You're having a week of big calls.

Polo over Miles is weird.

Gamble over Eddy is not. Clearly RL realised (too late, some would say) that one defensive forward who is useless offensively (McQaulter) is enough and therefore the other (Eddy) needed to go (I would have cut them both, but that's just me). They need more dangerous options forward, particularly the 3rd tall forward, and Gamble offers way more than Eddy. Obviously Lyon is gambling that he can improve Gamble's defensive pressure to a reasonable standard though.
