Polo is better than Eddy and Gamble was a freeby-nothing lost. Gamble will be a winner for Saints, may get to play for a start, and then play in his correct position. Saints will likely play off for another GF next year.

Like to wager they dont. The window shut in September this year.

Cant see why Gamble will be a winner for the Saints when he couldnt crack it with the Cats. IF Gamble plays constantly for the Saints they wont be in any Grand Finals..... IMO...

One of the glaring deficiencies St Kilda has is in the medium forward spots. He can fill one of those spots.

Gamble has talent, we know that, and lets face it, there hasn't really been a spot for him at Geelong.

Yes, i've been critical of his work ethic, but hey, he's going to get a look at the Saints, and that may prove the motivation.

I think it's a smart pick up by St Kilda, because there is no doubt in my mind he can add something positive to their list.

Agree. Plus he will likely be played in his most natural position.

OK Dave. I'm no betting man, but maybe we'll wager a Trav Varcoe sponsorship for 2012, seeing as we both highly rate him. Loser pays for the other's honour? No loss situation. I am most annoyed that Saints are the benefactors, of all teams, of our inappropriate handling of Gamble. He has huge talent and we may see it emerge next year. Hope it's not like Rodan showing Tigers what he was able to do when he went to Port. I would have been more comfortable with Gamble going anywhere else, except Hawks.

Gamble was touted around during trade week and not one list manager was a taker is my understanding. So you must see something in him they don't. It's rare for us to dispense with a player who then goes on to bite us on the bum. At pick 90 he was worth a punt by the Saints, but who was the last pick 90 who turned out to be a star?

The Saints have one of the oldest lists and one with the least depth. Toss in players like Dal Santo, Gardner, Koschitzke, Schneider, Baker, Milne and Ray being past their best and methinks the window has closed for them. Plus they've had a massive exodus of coaching staff. Full credit to Ross Lyon who has got the absolute best out of his list - playing a shit brand of football in the process btw. However, he has been fortunate not to have been hit with injuries to a number of key players at at one time thereby testing the lack of depth.Take the bet Dave.:)

the 'Aints do have depth problems but some of those you bolded aren't really showing any decline outside of wishful thinking. Schneider was much better this year than last, Milne kicked 57 goals, Dal Santo has averaged 25+ diposals twice in his career: in 2009 and 2010. Only Ray out of these regressed from 2009 and he's only 24...he's hardly 'past it'.

I will take that wager! We are both winners whichever way it goes.

Gamble is too flaky in my eyes. He shows flashes but I have real doubts he can put it together on a regular basis. Maybe.....maybe two/three games where he does well...but I doubt he will be a regular.

Gamble a huge talent? Don't think so, but if I am wrong I am more than happy to put my hand up for TV...

Can we let Ammo be the adjudicator?? He seems a fair minded bloke.

Good morning Dave, how's the weather in Switzerland? The wager is about Saints playing off for 2011 GF,+/- Gamble's influence?? I still believe Gamble will offer them something, but I was also annoyed they got King and Gardiner for zilch, and neither really hurt us ever at St. Kilda.

I think David is wagering on the degree/extent of positive impact Gamble will have at St Kilda. If that’s the case can I suggest SJ or Winty make the call as I’m not exactly a disinterested party.

If the GF finalists have any part of it there is no need for a third party as it’s a black and white issue. Oh, and you may as well fork out now, VEEDUBS.:p

Getting cooler..a little snow around but the skis arent out yet! Soon though..... :thumbsu:

My idea is that St Kilda wont make the GF..as for Gamble, if you would like to suggest a measure for Gamble's success...( x games + x goals ) ....we can add that to the wager....should keep us in touch through the season:thumbsu:

Ammo as the judge?

Go VEEDUBS! :thumbsu:

Seriously though, interested to read the thoughts on Gamble. If he had the talent, was it an attitude problem that pushed him out of Geelong? I think I saw him play one of those where he did well at the Cattery, and remember thinking how good your depth in young talent was. Surprised to see him on our list now, and obviously hoping he does well (really think he will too, unlike C. Gardiner who was always going to be a dud).

Anyways sorry to interrupt, there's some great well-balanced convo on your board and I always enjoy it.

i think you will find that alot of cats supporters would like Gamble to do well, i for one think he has the talent to be a good player, something just did not click at Geelong.

Yep, pretty much. On those occasions when he got a game, he'd make some sort of mistake and be out the next week. It's hard to get consistent that way, so he's kind of partially untried. But I must say, he was frustrating at times - he seemed to have learned the Geelong forward yips from somewhere...

The only time i was truely angry with Gamble was against Freo, when Travie V ran the whole field to set up the play and Gamble should have given Travie the handball to finish off the goal, but Gamble chose to kick the goal himself, any person with a true feel for the game would have given the ball back to Travie V. But that aside, good luck Gamble at the Saints, hopefully they play him forward and he kicks some goals against both the Gold Coast and Bombers.

I was with two died in the wool Sainters at lunch. The only one indifferent to Gamble becoming a Saint was me. They were spewing about the clubs habit of getting "rejects". The same feelings applied to Polo. They also still hadn't recovered from the poor effort in the GF replay btw - that might have added to the disillusionment. It's good to see Gamble get a second chance but he won't add much to their fire power and his lack of interest in applying real defensive might come at a cost.

The thing that didn't click was the coaching staff stupidly persisting in playing him out of position. He played his best footy in the FL, yet we stubbornly continued to play him off HB, which was clearly not his bag.

Hope he does well at the saints. I'm sure he's glad to be gone. I don't blame him.

Gamble, who spent much of last season languishing in the backline at VFL level with the Cats, believes he can provide what the Saints are looking for as a possible third marking forward option.
He was 'languishing' there because he was more interested in showboating as a 'marking option' up forward and showed little interest in chasing and hassling. He was meant to learn.

IF next year he turns it regularly for the Saints as a forward, I hope you don't ask "why didn't he do that for us?" The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind.

1. He was placed in the back half after ample opportunity to perform up forward. Why? To learn some defensive skills which he failed to do.

2. He was picked-up at pick 90. How many pick 90s make an impression?

3. In case you didn't notice, the article confirmed he was hawked around during the trade period and not one list manager wanted him. And you think you know better than them.

4. How often have players we've delisted turned out to have had a major impact at another club?

5. Instead of squirming take David's bet. Oh and let's not forget your confident forecast the Saints will make the GF in 2011. Be sure to include that as well.

6. Do you have a picture of Ryan over your bed?

Wow, sensitive. In reply,
1. Did he not go well in the B& F in the 2's? Learned something, evidently.
2. Can't name one. I did say IF. Will be the ultimate bargain IF it comes off
3. Of course I don't know better than them, but he WAS selected, and contrary to your opinion, some believe Bomber stubbornly played out of position for too long. Me included.
4. Can't name any, and I have said that elsewhere. Don't want him to necessarily either At St. Kilda.
5. SQUIRMING? That I take exception to. Read my initial claim CAREFULLY. I said I expect St. Kilda to play off for a GF.[ IE TOP 4 ]. Gamble may help in that, may not. The bet is on, and the bet IS THAT I EXPECT SAINTS TO PLAY OFF FOR A GF. Others can take that as desired. I think David has it sorted.
6. No. Haven't had a chance to say I ever saw the best of him, but thought with a new coach, we could have got more out of him next year.

Apologies if I was a bit direct. Think I must've been channeling V.C:eek:
No apologies needed, enjoy the different opinions, but interested in your thoughts re. reply

So VD...lets keep it simple!!...The bet is...St Kilda will play in the 2011 PF....WITH Gamble in the side. I say that wont happen...you say it will. The loser coughs up for a TV sponsorship next year....deal???

I wonder if Veedubs will double up on hios love child - blake
he has posted copious posts on how good this guy will turn out to be, ie like his dad, so it would be great if he had the conviction to back his opinion

as for gamble, he is a dud, he will get some game time, get some cheap goals, but when the heat is on he is not good enough
