Amidst all the accolades for Hussey, Johnson and Watson, I thought Harris deserves his own thread. After today, Harris now has a Test bowling average a tick under 20. He has been simply brilliant since coming into the side. He was the only bowler who looked the least bit threatening in Adelaide, and after a good solid contribution when Johnson was resting in the first innings in Perth (despite a wayward start), he played the destroyer in the second dig, finishing the game in emphatic fashion and ensuring we go to Melbourne with as much momentum as possible.

Ryan Harris, I salute you! :)

Gun bowler, it's a shame he's already 31 and injury prone.

However, if he helps us regain the Ashes he'll always be remembered as a hero, similar to S.Clark 4 years ago come to think of it.

Agreed, love the way he goes about it. Deceivingly quick and one of those bowlers who is always at the batsman. Great to watch.

Has fit in very well into international cricket. Hope he can stay on two legs as having someone who can keep his head while bowling in the second innings is such a bonus for the Aussies. And we have been missing that.

I must admit Harris reminds me a lot of Dale Steyn the way he charges in, and he can swing the ball both ways at serious pace, obviously he's not in the same league as Steyn just yet but he bowls with more control than any other Aussie bowler on a consistent basis

It's a shame he's not a few years younger

It is a shame he's not younger. It's also a shame he spent so many years trying to be an allrounder. To think if he'd concentrated on his bowling from the start, rather than just recently, he probably could have played 50 Tests by now.

all rounder???

siddle is better than him with the bat, or even Hilf for that matter.

He is a much better bat than he has demonstrated at Test level, and averages 20 at FC level with a handful of 50s, but yes, weird, isn't it? He used to be considered an allrounder, and apparently only recently started focusing on his bowling, ramped up his pace, etc. QLD/SA supporters can probably fill in more detail.

With 4 runs in 4 innings he will have to move to no11 for Boxing Day :)

Done well with the support of his captain which is critical to any bowler as they get brought back on even when smashed in their previous spells and brought in ahead of someone who bowled much better in his first, far shorter spell...

How did I know...

He is a genuinely good quick. Pacey, with good command of movement, even though he can occasionally be erratic.

It occurs to me that Australia should handle him like Tottenham handle their top defender, Ledley King. Put him on a light training regime and do not play him more than once a week unless the occasion demands it (i.e - these next two Tests). They have similar conditions, except I think King's left knee lacks cartilage, not his right.

imo where was media for his performances he got 9 Wickets.

not a huge fan due to the fact i think chris swan is qld best bowler and harris injury history is scary. but he has done a great job.

not sure whether hes playing 2020 or ODIs but i would get him to retire from them both. (Maybe he can play the ODI WC 2011 but thats it). we need him in the test and with Johnson we have a half reasonable attack for the next 3 years.

Whilst the supposed next generation (Pattinson, Hazelwood,Starc and the others) are all out injured and well and truly not ready, you'd happily take 2 years out of a Ryan Harris if he can give it to you.

Brilliant player. Toiled away for years in SA Grade cricket taking 7fers whilst not being picked for the redbacks which left me screaming. Finally gets picked and then off the QLD he goes. Can wield the bat don't worry about that, but is more a one day and 20/20 slogger with brute force rather than someone who is going to stick around the crease for a while.

Siddle? Yeh, Harris is a hell of a lot better than him. More control, can actually move the ball and bowls to a plan. That Siddle bloke is cannon fodder should be dropped.

Not a long term prospect due to his knee condition unfortunately, but should be a handy cricketer for a couple of years as the next generation prepares to take over.

Siddle or Hily to be dropped for boxing day? (assuming they take a spinner in).

Thought I'd bump this. Bowled fantastically for Queensland against WA taking 6 wickets in the second innings I think. He a chance for The Ashes?

He will definitely come into consideration, perhaps at the expense of Johnson, as he is rated quite highly by the powers that be.
