Really has shown some development. Surprisingly strong overhead. For me he is a natural inside mid who can also get results up forward. His instincts are improving. There was just the odd hint of a Fyfe-like presence in him up forward today (but a better set shot). If he can build on his midfield work, endurance and be smart about his disposal - we have ourselves a player.

Our 2015 Club Champions

Ryan Lester was named the 2015 Marcus Ashcroft Most Professional Player Award with Zac O’Brien the recipient of the Neville Fallon Reserves Best and Fairest.

Ryan Lester: Most Professional Player

Ryan Lester’s recognition as the Most Professional Player at the recent 2015 Club Champion presentation evening was reward for effort after a difficult year.

In his fifth AFL season, Lester has proven he has the necessary drive and determination to succeed at the elite level, despite suffering an injury setback in Round 15 against the Swans in the Reserves, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

Lester used the opportunity to thank those departing the Lions, who had helped him along the journey.

“Thanks to the people departing the Club at the end of this year, both players and staff.

“Your contributions have been enormous to this football club and you’ll be sorely missed”, he said.

“To the members and the fans, thank you for your support. It’s been a tough year, but good times are around the corner. We appreciate your support.”

Player Reviews: Part Seven

Ryan Lester played nine senior games in 2015. At 190cm tall and 85kg, he is able to play varying roles across the field. In a surprise showing, he booted four goals in Round 9 against St Kilda, providing an answer to the question of who would fill the void left up forward in Daniel McStay’s absence through injury. Spending time in the NEAFL side during the season, Lester was sidelined with a knee injury in Round 15 and wasn’t able to return to the senior team.

Bit of a bump.

Lesters playing that 3rd tall forward type this season and i think he is working his way into it nicely.

Excellent game today with the only contest he lost convincingly was in the last 5 mins. Ball hardly gets away from him.

exactly where he needs to play out the season. Dont hold your breathe though as he has had this sort of a game before up forward. Next week the coaches could play him at back pocket haha. I hope he stays forward

He is really suited to his role I think -strong enough to hold off a second or third defender, fights well for the ball and knows how to tackle, can do time in the midfield as needed and has a knack of getting the ball to ground in contests in our forward fifty.

I think if he can have a game or two where he really gets going and bags five goals he will start to make a name for himself as a mid-sized forward that opposition defenders will start to sweat on.
