His midfield defensive pressure and chase would be an asset as well. He is a good high half forward, so I don't imagine it would be a stretch for him to spend more time up the ground.

Duffy and Lester-Smith are both 6,2. Same height as Ibbotson and Mayne.

oh, ok makes more sense i guess. Can Lester Smith play Midfield anyone??
WOuldnt mind 2 Mayne's tbh, duffy seems a little - so,so

According to all readings he has the RTB game plan to a tee with his forward pressure acts similar to Mayne, so imagine 2 maynes level pressure only going to get better than the sydney game. heheh only difference bigger body and he breaks packs.

From his description, he sounds like the perfect fit for us. Height-wise is only 1 inch shorter than the Pav.

BUT... for all the scoring power we've brought in so far, wouldn't we still be WAY undersized up front?

Doesnt matter as long as he has the weight to be honest look at Jack Darling he aint a big boy but he breaks packs and has heart. How doe ryan compare to jacks

Strength is all well and good, but we do need some height there as well. We would struggle vs teams with a tall, quality backline - they would just reach up and mark everything coming into our inside 50 by holding their hands up and over our midget brigade. (Harry Taylor plucking everything out of the air in the Geelong H/A game comes to mind...)

That is because our structure fell apart like in the last qtr of the GF when lake was doing it.

Perhaps they expect better things from Chris Mayne or he is going in for hip surgery or something like that any day now and they want a structural replacement.

If he is LeCras Mark II (get it?) then he can play as a lead up forward himself, he is lightning fast from what I hear.

I was overseas so I didn't see... glad now that I have not sought out the replay - would be too painful to watch and even more disheartening with no talls wanting to come our way?

Are we that unappealing as a destination club?! We're a side that's on the up, with a premiership window wide open, in a stable club with a good, professional culture, good mentors, and cash... why is it so hard?!!!

I was looking at the scores over my AFL app... I was so hopeful we could run them down. I think I'll end up breaking my heart if I saw how well they played only to shoot themselves in the foot in the end. Maybe next year I'll watch it, when we are back in the finals. :(

Very very clever medium forward for EF. kinda pushed Duffy out of the forward line this year at East Freo. Kicks multiple goal. Good set shot and good skills. I wondered how clubs would rate him, now we know.
This is what i was going to say... if nothing else, he is an upgrade on Duffy who i never rated to begin with.

Wonder if he didn't nominate for draft previously - but if he did, why wasn't he picked up?
Only really came onto the league scene this year. I was trying to work out were this 21 year old had come from. Seemed like he parachuted in from nowhere. EF people would have known about him I guess.

Guys...I suspect the club is looking at him as a mid who can rotate forward rather than a forward. He would play midfield full time at EF if we had more options forward. It's definitely not a coincidence that we started to struggle after he went down.

TBH I was really surprised that he didn't get picked up as a rookie last year. Although a latish bloomer, he is very talented, and is starting to look a natural footballer who positions well, and cretaes time and space. I think he has definite potential at senior level and with a couple of AFL pre seasons and a decent fitness base could really be something.

He is a hardcore West Coast man like his dad, but is a good kid nonetheless, with a good attitude and work ethic. Stav rates him highly and you only get in Stav's good graces if you a worker!

All in all could be a great pick up for us and hope it comes off...

Very happy with this, IMHO a low risk, low cost move that (if no other club comes in and gazumps by taking him in round 2 or 3 of the ND) might just wind up with a fair prospect for not much outlay.

Also so, so nice to finally even hear a mere proposed pick as a "Fremantle father/son selection". A very special feeling to know we are getting close to the point where we can regularly look to father son selections being an option, and begin to develop the sort of loyal stream of young kids that a number of other older clubs have lived off for years...
