Should we leave him in the forward line for the rest of the year?
I think its time to take him out from the Half Back line and give him a different challenge.
You ask me, I think Ryan has gone backwards this year, and a move into a more attacking position is maybe the key to firing him up again. He did look dangerous against Brisbane in the forward line.

What do you think?

When we have Wakes, Presti and Clemo (and maybe J-Clo) then it's an option, especially if we're talls down (eg. Taz, Cam, Fraser in ruck).

I think he's an underrated defender, only because people are ****ed off that he doesn't kick running 50 metre goals every week.

One thing's for certain; he's a better bloody option up there than J-Clo!!!

i would love to see us recruit nathan from the hawks,a lonie on both back flanks. streaming out of defence , both great kicks ,it would be a bonus for our leading forwards.

Ryan Lonie is a great kick of the football, especially accuracy and distance, so all-in-all a great kick, but his season is at a poor standard. Hasn't been bad, but hasn't been good. After a great first year in 2001, His performance's should be better than what they have been.

Ryan Lonie has been played as a player running off the half-back flank and along the wing, ready to pump the ball Inside the forward 50, or waiting for that opportunity to kick that long, 55m goal on the run, but that hasn't happened.

Ryan Lonie 2004 Statistics:
Games: 16
Time on Ground: 1763 (@ 110 mins per game)
Kicks: 128
Handballs: 54
Disposals: 182 (@ 11.4)
Hardball Gets: 15
Looseball Gets: 38
Inside 50's: 25
Rebound 50's: 28
Marks: 53 (14 Contested)
Clangers: 22
Tackles: 34
Goals: 7
Behinds: 6
Hitouts: 3

TOTAL Ranking Points: 1024 (@ 64.0)

As for Ryan Lonie staying in the Forward Line, it won't hurt. He can be quite an oppurtunist inside 50, and that way, Josh Fraser can randomly swap postitions with Ryan. Josh Fraser has been playing on the Wing when not in Ruck, besides the Full-Forward stint, so if they can swap of the wing into the goalsquare, it wouldn't worry me.

How 'bout playing him where he can kick 15+ of 'em per year? He should be played on the wind. However in the interest of player development I am more than happy to play him as a forward in this otherwise pointless season. Lonie as a forward or winger, Fraser (if Richards plays) or Walker as a CHB, Tarrant as a winger, Woewodin as a small forward, Mullins on the ball, O'Bree to Siberia and Rocca rested for the rest of the season would suit me fine. Let’s find out what we got to deal with before we use picks 2, 4 & 19.

Awesome stats, where do you get them from?

We should leave him forward for sure, especially with Daks out. Play him to his strengths rather than down in the back pocket where he is a waste of skill and talent.

When he has the ball things happen.

We should leave him at Williamstown for the rest of the year, he is in a 35+ game form slump. But he will stay in the Seniors and i think he should stay forward. He is tallish and agile, wish he could play like he promised he would in 2001.
He isnt giving enough, i can see the 11 possies a game but i dont think that is enough for Ryan and the quality of his possies isnt exceptionally high.

I use the Herald Sun and get the more tactical stats from the pro-stats site (prowess.com.au). The Ranking Points are from my own formula.

I have been doing this since 1999, (when i was 12).

Ah ok so you collate them.

I thought there might have been a website considering the fact that www.championdata.com.au is as useless as a Pork Roast on Hannukah.

yeah, it is a bloody joke. The hardball gets and contested marks that are on pro-stats are not official AFL statistics, so that annoys me, but they are the statistics that the Coaches use, so I guess it doesn't matter.
