I hope you are wrong as we got our old pick last year in acker we dont need another 28 yr old in the forward lineRumour is Russell Robertson is talking with the bulldogs. How about this...
Murphy to Melbourne
Robertson to Bulldogs
Ray to Fremantle
Melbourne get a replacement forward
Bulldogs get a forward
Fremantle bolster our midfield
Everyone strengthens their weaknesses....

I'd be happy to trade Murphy to the Eagles for Matty Rosa. I think Rosa would get more game time/responsibility with us than the Weagles, and probably vice versa for Murphy. Can't see the Eagles wanting to trade for a player with attitude issues. They're quite picky with their trades.
I wouldn't.
Rosa is ordinary...rather trade for a pick...
Nicoski apparently is expected to look around. In\out of their 22. (Todays West)

In Highnsight, when Murphy's value was at its peak and we had committed to chasing Tarrant...Should we have traded Murphy for a decent pick in the best draft?
In fairness sabre, I'm pretty sure the club was hoping that Murph would be spending the majority of '07 at full-forward, with Taz, Wiz and Pav sharing the other spots. Murph had every chance of stitching up full-forward in the pre-season and the first week or two of the season - he barely touched the ball in that time, and unfortunately seemed to drop his head. Hopefully he kicks a bag for Souths tomorrow and leads them into a GF next week.![]()
I agree with your point.
But it wasn't a stretch to realise that both Tarrant and Murphy were similar type leading forward's. My understanding is the plan was to isolate Pavlich more often, Tarrant playing up the field.
Doesn't leave much room for Murphy.
Murph is an out and out full forward. Taz plays at his best further up the ground - his ball winning ability and delivery, along with his pressure is very good (and that's without taking into account his occasional yips and general dislike of taking shots at goal). Pav can clearly play either as a stay at home or roaming forward. I think there is more than enough room for the three of them, especially with Farmer at their feet.
My opinion is the moment we took Tarrant, Murphy's future at the club was sealed. Highnsight is a wonderful thing, but surely people in the club that agree with me must have realised his trade value was at its peak.
Pavlich is as comfortable on the lead as he is one on one, as he is in a pack situation as he is off the ground
This is why he is the competition's best forward
Murphy in my opinion doesn't have the all round ability of a Pavlich, he is more specialised like Tarrant. I see them as very similar type players, leading forwards.
I would prefer a Warnock or Sandilands resting in our forward line than Tarrant AND Murphy.

Murphy is a full foward, and has demonstrated a complete lack of work ethic and hunger if the ball doesn't hit him on the chest...Murphy, if he gets traded has sealed his own fate.
We have a history of buying high and selling low unfortunately.
A bit harsh on a guy who is 21/22. The same could be said about Buddy Franklin, whose 2nd efforts are poor and his tackling is below average.
