O'Keefe is out of contract at the end of the season, interestingly he handles his own contracts and has not yet entered into discussions on a new one.
He has not ruled out returning to Victoria to finish his career.
He also states that "I love Sydney and i love being up here, but you never say never".

With RO'K turning 28 next year would we consider trading him for a younger player and maybe a top 1-5 draft pick, this is in light of a compromised draft in the next few seasons.
I would hate to see him go,but if he really wants to there's not much we can do but try and get the best new talent we can.You will now see a frenzy by Melbourne clubs to try and coax him home.

I'd be very surprised if he did want to move to another club. The only way he'd move back to Melbourne is if Sydney gave him a dud deal which i doubt.

One great thing about the AFL is the players have loyalty to the clubs and the only reason they'd want to be traded is if they think they deserve more money, player disharmony and other negatives that come with it.

Top 5 draft pick would mean he'd go for a bottom 4 team. Mel, Tiges, Essendon.. either of them are at least a few years away from making an impact into the finals.. by then he'll be 31 and on his last legs...

And to give all that up for a few extra dollars? I don't think so..

I would HATE to see O'Keefe go to another club from a personal level.

From a club point of view the only reason it would make sense would be to get draft pick(s) to help ease the pressure of the new teams entering the comp in the next few years. You wouldn't think anyone not in flag contention in the next few years would take him for that exact reason.

I am sure Ross Lyon would make a place for him.

i think richmond are closer than the dees or dons to do anything, carlton you'd think couldn't keep him uner a salary cap, but c'wood might try and trade to get a high enough draft pick to make an offer
although as malthouse has complained, c'wood seemed to get linked to any decent player coming outa contract as a way of boosting their value

i guess at this stage i can't see ROK wanting to leave sydney, but yes, i spose it's always possible that he'd want to come back to melbourne, i think it's been hinted at in past years around trade time

you'd think it would make big news in the melbourne media

No wtf i would hate to see him go buuut if he wants to go then there isn't much we can do, and then i would be hoping for a top 5 pick in return.

Is anyone else getting entirely sick of players saying "I might leave" during their contract renewal period - the "Pavlich Strategy"? It's so friggin' boring.

Definately. I hate the whole trade/contract speculation BS that goes on for months in advance. about 1 in 50 - 60 times something exciting actually happens ala the Judd deal. The rest of the time it's either the player trying to jack up their price or the media trying to sell papers.

Definitely more the papers. I'm pretty sure they'll work something out. You don't work 10 years to establish yourself then say i'm heading elsewhere.

I wouldn't be surprised if he were to be voted into the leadership group.

He's already in the leadership group.

Has anyone not been in the leadership group at one time or another? They're being given out more than those Fitness First passes. :p

All-Australian, Victorian rep, International Rules Rep, Premiership player. We're talking near-Chris Judd status here, so top 5 pick PLUS more.

God I hope ROK stays. He's an abolute star and very versatile. He just snuggles in well in the wing, defence and as a forward. He's a strong marker as well... HATE to see him go.

Saying all that, ROK will stay.

I can't imagine him going anywhere. He's been in Sydney for a long time now and if he didn't go home after the death of his brother a few years ago, I can't imagine homesickness hitting now. He also married a Sydney girl in January so she wouldn't be pushing for it.
That only leaves money as the thing that could lure him away and I imagine the Swans would match any offer he was made.
Anyway, when was the last time we let a player go that was considered an essential player?

a top 5 pick? no way..the only way ill b comforted in seeing keefa leave is getting all the top 5 picks for him lol

Grant wanted to leave though and there wasn't a lot we could do to keep him.
