There seems to be so many youngsters that all look the goods, that I feel it may be difficult to stuff up any 1st round pick this year.

There looks to be about 15 - 20 lads who I'd love to have selected by my team.

Yeah true.
Loads I would love in Adelaide.

When do people think Heyne will be picked?? Been down in form but I think he could improve and become a vital forward.

VicCrow?? :D Your thoughts??
And others?

Has a strong cult following. I think he could be an excellent inclusion to our side. My prediction at a first round on the D&T board saw him go at about 8-10.

Its looking like it will be very hard to miss with this first round. Lots of ready made players.

I think ive well and truly declared my man crush for sidey though

This year I'd be very willing to trade for another 2nd rounder or 2.

There will be quality right through to about pick 30 I reckon.

agree totally. what can we offer though that could entice clubs enough???

we havnt much trade bait outside of jericho or campbell
My dream is to have Schoenmakers, Heyne and Sidebottom.
I will atcually cry of happiness.

We could offer Jericho AND Campbell to Richmond and they could give us their 2nd rounder:D...

So we could get;

Pick 11 (around there); Sidebottom
Pick 17; Heyne
Pick 22; Schoenmakers

Edit - Ok; that it soo unrelistic!
Im still wanting to use Rielly for trading bait!
If we gave someone Rielly and our 4th rounder/Jericho to someone who is interested and recieve their 1st rounder. If we just give Rielly we could still end up with a 1st rounder.. I think a 2nd rounder though.

Then;
Pick 11 (around there); Sidebottom
Pick 17; Heyne
Pick 22; Schoenmakers

May come true!!

well the good thing is, we don't really need to give up quality, we just need to get a smattering of picks.

infact....i'd even trade our first rounder for 2 or 3 2nd round picks, kind of like what the doggies did last year.

Cant see them agreeing to it. lol
Cant see heyne around at 17 either.
I think we should try and get another pick in that range though. Rockliff might still be about ;) It would almost take a reilly to a pick around there but im not keen on trading him.

We insist that we lack depth in that middle age group so getting rid of him would not seem wise.

OK, I'll assume that pick 11 is our original 1st round pick, meaning that we finish 6th at the end of the year. Not unreasonable.

Pick 22 is early even for Richmond's 2nd round pick. Assuming 3 PPs between the first & second rounds, the 22nd pick will be the 2nd round selection for the team which finishes 14th (probably Freo).

Assuming Richmond maintain their current position on the ladder (11th), with 3 PPs to be accounted for, their 2nd pick would be #25 overall.

Assuming we finish 6th (in accordance with your decision to give us pick #11), our 2nd round pick would be #30.

Reduce those numbers by 1 for each team to escape the "red zone", where they earn themselves a PP. I'm assuming Melbourne, Freo & West Coast each get a PP, with Port Adelaide escaping the red zone.

Care to reassess whether Heyne and/or Schoenmakers will be available at those picks?

Ahhh!
Cheers for that Vadar:thumbsu:

I did a bit of stuffing up..

Do you consider Rielly as trading bait? Someone may be interested with giving us a 1st rounder!!

Then we probably could have a chance at Hartlett who I would LOOOVE in the Crows. What a gun.

Then for OUR actuall 1st rounder we could get Heyne/Schoenmakers :thumbsu:

I like it:D

Well, I am the person who started the "Brent Reilly - Trade Bait?" thread a couple of weeks back.

Do I think he's trade bait? Unlikely. For a couple of reasons.

Firstly, Neil Craig seems averse to club initiated trades. He's more than happy to help a player find a new home if they wish to initiate the trade, but he won't trade a player unless they ask to be traded.

Secondly, Reilly plays a vital role at the club in mentoring our younger players. He's the one we turn to when some of our youngsters get homesick and contemplate the possibility of returning home rather than re-signing with the Crows. He's the one who talks them into staying, having been through exactly the same experience himself.

Given the loyalty Reilly has shown to the Crows, it would be wrong of the club to be disloyal to him in offering him around as trade bait.

I WOULD like to see the Crows trade some players for an improved position in the draft. Realistically, the only player I expect to be traded would be Luke Jericho. I doubt we'd get anything better than a 3rd rounder for him.

I agree with you but I dont mind if Rielly goes because he is never in die to his injuries!!

Hoopefully Jericho goes for a 2nd/3rd rounder

tom swift could turn into the bargain of the draft.. been injured so hasnt been able to show, but he is very classy.

Can't see too many clubs being willing to sacrifice draft picks for average players this year.

The draft pool is too enticing, plus with the expansion clubs due to enter soon, draft picks will be at a premium.

Apologies if already posted, but this from Jason McCartney on afl.com.au:

He only had it 12 times, but he looks a class act with the way he moves. He is a left-footer and has a good set of hands and agility. Ryan played as a defender early in the championships, but moved forward in the later stages, forming a strong attack with Lewis Johnston and Paul Cahill. He's got a really bright future.

Something which tends to be underrated at this stage when talking about a player like Schoenmakers (in fact these days, when talking about almost any player) is the importance of draft camp results. The clubs don't just want a bland opinion that the bloke has decent agility/speed/endurance, they want to know in numerical terms, 'Just how fast/agile/fit is he?'

A case in point being in 2004 when Heath Grundy went from being a lock on a top 20 pick (30 if you were being pessimistic) to going at #42 in the rookie draft behind some names that must have been instantly forgettable even to those calling them (among Sydney picks alone, e.g., Guy Campbell). It was like the guy had had a curse placed on him. All off the back of poor draft camp results.

So while if the draft was held tomorrow late 2nd round/early 3rd would be a reasonable guess, there's a long long way to go for good or ill.

Yeah. Will Gayfer is another who went from being talked up as a first round pick to not even drafted anywhere, all on the back of terrible draft camp results.
