um, ok. sure thing champ. :thumbsu:

Translation: I've got no answer to your jibe and have now realised that I was, in fact, the only one making this about Port. However, rather than admit that my comments were misguided, I'll just mock you because it makes me feel big, and it deflects attention away from the fact that I got it all wrong.

yeah that's it. another great spot. on fire today. 2 for 2 :thumbsu:

Port did offer Williams as trade bait to the crows, however the crows did not bite

IMO Williams is worth inviting to pre-season training and maybe holding back a PSD pick

this will allow the crows to assess their last selection in the draft against Williams

I'm actually also a fan of holding a pick back for the PSD - personally, I would have made one more delisting, as I do think we want to make five picks in this draft.

In principle that sounds fine, and I wouldn't have minded that myself.

However, who is the additional player that you would have delisted??

we need to pick players who are right for us, the best possible options.

not because its a chance to maybe get one over the other mob

I take it you're one of those that hasn't been to an SANFL game since 1990.

Williams was given a chance to play in Centrals league side this year, and took his chances. He became a vital player for Centrals this year, building game after game. He had a great game in the Grand Final.

Whilst I understand there is a big step from SANFL to AFL, I do believe Williams has the capability to make that step and would be a good pick up for Adelaide.

I really hope Adelaide does pick up Ryan Williams, it would be good for him and good for his mate Travis Boak

Honestly? Goodwin.

I'm NOT saying that we should have delisted Goodwin so that we can get a PSD pick, as that doesn't seem great value, but I would have wanted to see one more of the older players retire, and Goodwin seems man most likely.

I agree that Goodwin really seemed to struggle in the second half of the season. He is really struggling for mobility like Roo in '07 and he can barely kick the ball over a coke can these days. :(

I hope he stands down as captain for next year as we really don't need a lame duck captain for the third season in a row. Bock or VB for mine, to get the job.

You've given the reason why Goodwin was retained in the same post where you say he should have retired. Nothing would be gained for it.

You don't retire players just for the sake of it - as long as we have enough draft picks and an Edwards or a Goodwin can still add value (in a number of roles, not just as a defender) then retiring them is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Yes, there's a problem that they will likely retire together. But that's unavoidable and not solved if you do 1 this year and 1 next. After 2 years you remain in the same boat and all you've achieved is missing out on 1 or 2 years of a quality player.

i agree, now i think about it; i'd rather have Goodwin in the side than a PSD pick. Goody did play some really good games this year, but has been hampered by injuries...my guess is he'll definitely retire at the end of next year and will be the first to do so out of the big 3. gives guys like vB, Bock, Thommo and whoever another year to fight for that captaincy.

i think, if the crows were interested in Williams, wouldn't they have offered a late draft pick for him, seeing he was out of contract (and subsequently delisted)...and the fact that the crows most likely wouldn't use a PSD pick.

He wouldn't be the worst pickup.

No idea why Port delisted him, he's not a flashy receiver I guess. I have been impressed by him after watching him play well in the SANFL finals.

When asked about his delisting on 5aa on the weekend, Rucci said of Ryan Williams that he might be one of those players that look exceptionally good at SANFL level but arent quite up to AFL level. He might have mentioned his size. Not sure about that part.

An example of this... Jeremy Clayton from the port magpies....
has dominateed the SANFL for a number of years... but probably isnt up to AFL.

I wouldn't mind him at the Crows , we could do with someone with a booming kick. Half our team can't kick over 50m.

I've seen ryan williams play a fair bit this year, being a centrals fan and he's quite a good player, hard at the ball, highly skilled and does the team things. I think that he with time could be a very good AFL player, could use a later draft pick to pick him up, after all he'll be 21 next year, so he's got time to develop.
