Anyone think he worth a punt. When he played against us I thought they had unearthed another Rutten.

Has gone backwards since, but guys with that kind of body and strength are rare.

Pass - no thanks.

If we draft Ryan Willits I everyone is willing to ‘Pass the Dutchie’ to the left hand side because that the only way I could see him as a reasonable player

Willits??

The only edge he has on any other would be footballer is that he could grow a moustache and a beard in one day for Movember!!

Nowhere near being an AFL player IMO.

Pass.

Would be better off walking outside and throwing the Salary CAP money up in the air or betting it on tails at the casino.
the only worse power player I have seen was luke peel.

Lets cast the net wider guys

Mickyj, I totally agree. It's funny; when Mark Mickan explained why he played him in the reserves for Glenelg it was totally reasonable. If you know Mickan and his coaching, he is superb. Especially with the young guys. When Port showed their arrogance and moved him onto Westies Mickan stated he felt sorry for the kid (Willits) and questioned Ports thinking. So who benefited from that move? It doesn’t seem to be Ryan Willits.
Write about who is arrogant now Rucci.

I think most people including non Port supporters felt the decision to move Willits was justified. Obviously the move to West perhaps not the best, but as the bottom ranked side I believe they had first go at Willits once he became available and Port could not choose where he went. I'm sure someone can confirm or deny this.

But at the time Willits was not selected for Glenelg and they did provide Port with a pretty poor excuse. Especially given Willits had played most the previous season for Glenelg in the league side. The issue with Glenelg took place in the pre-season. He played a half for the Power against the Saints in a praccy game and looked good kicking 3 goals. Obviously after this Port felt he would be able to make the Glenelg league side the following week when he was released to play.

Obviously Willits was pretty up and down at West, I would be happy for the Power to re-draft him.

I heard Mickan actually be interviewed about this decision shortly after Willits ask to be moved. Mickan's reasoning was valid in respect to how he was trying to prepare his side for the season. He had a number of options to play centre half forward, including an Adelaide player.

Port had requested of Glenelg not to play him down back like they did last year. They were trying to abide by that, but realistically Mickan has to look after Glenelg first.

Willits was told that he would be strongly considered to play in the league side. Mickan was not going to guarantee a game on a tuesday before a game and that is what Willits wanted. He could not guarantee that Willits would play the whole game up forward. If Port wanted him to play a whole game then it could be a better option in the reserves but not in the league game.

Mickan came across as totally reasonable and explained himself and Glenelg's decision well. Willits wanted a guarantee which was never going to be given to any player.

I wonder what is more beneficial to developing a player. A few weeks in the reserves in a team that played finals.

Or

Playing league in a team that gets beaten each week, andyour playing "survival" footy.

You tend to learn more at a club that is doing well than one that is getitng flogged.

When we become the Adelaide Games For Charity Football Club then we will take Willits.

Well to be fair to Willits I saw him play twice last season. The first time he was playing in the EAGLES reserves team coming back from injury and west had the bye.At that stage the Eagles reserves were not performing .When I saw an AFL listed player playing I thought hey we will get a win. This being the norm for bottom placed reserves teams well it is for the eagles.;).
Anyway he was so BAD in defence he made the team look even worse. He was moved up FORWARD where he struggled even more.
The second time I watched him play for west against the EAGLES.One moment stands out he is standing the mark a west guy says something like watch the guy running past.So what did the big log do he shirt fronts Inkster(I think) in front of the umpire like two steps in front of the umpire. Gives away a 50 metre penalty goodbye and goodnight west.

And if Port wish to redraft him go right ahead boys :D
But not a pickup for the crows.

i would be very surprised if we did this
i was one who was certain willits would be delisted and it happened
i just dont see him as an AFL footballer
he is big and clumsy and doesnt seem to have much of a footy brain at all
just because someone is big and solid doesnt mean he is going to be a great AFL footballer who will kick 80 goals a season and take 15 marks a game

If Adelaide want him they can have him.... but im sure the crows are smarter than that

Thanks to some insight from posters here. My only impression of him is the Showdown against us.

Sounds like a big dud.

May end up at Richmond tho and be there Fullback, but never play finals. Bit like Richardson....

To be fair to Ryan he did start to show a bit at the end of 2006 when he did get a couple of games. Things looked like they were going well for him and it looked like he could make it

unfortunately 2007 was a shocking year for him and he really took a backwards step

he changed from Glenelg to West because he wasnt getting a run up forward, and his time with westies was even less productive to the point at times he was struggling to get a touch.

Yes he is a big strong lad but if he cant even get a kick at SANFL level i cant see how he will ever make it in the AFL

IIRC this is the guy who was talked up heaps approaching the second showdown of 2006. Kept hearing stuff like "oh he's a big bastard!" and he took a few solid marks but was horrid in front of goal.
