Me think we should play Ryder forward.

Now that lucus is out and Gumbleton injured adding a unfit and underdone Neagle, I would like to see Ryder as a fwd. Ryder has good hands, good leap, great height and is agile he will be very hard to match up on. I also see him as someone you could have close to goal or across half fwd and feel confortable in both posistions.

The only thing im not 100% sure on is who do we play back. Using this week as a example;

Fev - Mal
Fisher - Fletch
Kreuzer/Cloke/Hampson/any other teams 3rd tall fwd -
option 1 - NLM, although i like him up fwd to much to through him back.
option 2 - lee/johns, players who are not up to AFL stadard and could be dead weight.
option 3 ?????

What do guys think on both points?

i agree he should be in the mix to be thrown up forward for a while. Let's start developing his total game.

I actually thought Sunday would have been perfect after half time to throw him forward, I know he was doing an awesome job but really, when you are 70pts down something wasnt working and throwing him across the half forward line could have given us something, and something for Knights to look at if needed in the future.

You crazy???

sorry misread b4.....
still we have more options than ryder up forward.... he was our only shining light last week

Ryder is now accostomed to playing down back...he shouldn't be moved.

I think this brings up the question of what do we want from Ryder in career perspective.
Is it for him to lock down CHB for his career
Is it for him to be in the ruck
Is it for him to be a tall mobile utility
Or should we look at developing him across the ground in all areas

If Knights wants him to be ruck maybe it should be a Hille/Ryder combo
and Laycock as a perm fwd.

These are options im just suggesting, personally i would like to explore the possibility of Ryder being a fwd and small stints in the ruck over the next 2 months.

He played CHF in the WAFL IIRC so he wouldnt be totally out of place. I think it could be a good idea, but then we would be let short in defense. I think either NLM or McPhee could go back, or even Welsh coming back into the team. This week could be a good test. Fisher at 192 cm and 82kg isnt exactly a power forward. In fact, Mcphee, NLM and Welsh all have atleast 5kgs on him, and Mcphee and NLM are both taller. I havent seen Fisher play for a while, but I reckon all 3 of those guys would match it with him in the speed department aswell.

So here is my way of thinking.

Fletcher - Fev
Mal - Cloke/Hampson/Kreuzer
Mcphee/NLM/Welsh - Fisher
Rama - Betts.

Although I think Welsh would do well on Fisher, Id like to see him up forward on Scotland. Even though Scotland wont be accountable for Welsh, because Scotland is a selfish pig, atleast Welsh can be damaging aswell. Allowed to play his own game, Welsh will excell IMO.

So the forward matchups might look like this.
Lloyd - O'Hailpin
Ryder - Waite (this would be an awesome matchup.)
NLM/Mcphee (whoever isnt back) - Thornton (he needs to be made accountable)
Davey/Jetta - Bower???
Welsh - Scotland

And let's put Lucas and Lloyd in defence.... why not throw Keps in defence as well. Fletcher should go forward and keep running Watson out of the goal square.

Ho hum.

Well, it looks like we have a comedian in the house....

If you havent noticed, Lucas is injured, Keps is at Freo, and Watson actually took atleast two F50 marks last week.

Its some peoples opinion that Ryder should be played forward, so how about respecting that opinion :thumbsu:

Keep him in the backline. Hille and Laycock still have long careers left... we dont need another ruckmen for a while and KP backmen like ryder are almost impossible to find....

i think our forward line is fine now with lloyd at FF and NLM Mcphee and use Welsh as lead up forwards.. with laycock/hille deep in the forward line it can potentially be a very dangerous forward line..
Dont use last week as an indication. laycock probably put in his worst performance yet imo. NLM had a dislocated finger for pretty much the whole match and welsh wasnt playing.... plus we were playing on the best backline in the comp... our forward line isnt in trouble at all

keep the same system, use ryder on fisher, fletcher on kruzer/hampson/cloke and mel on fev... winderlick on betts. and we should be fine.. rama and nash can still play the attacking role of the HBF as well as winderlick running off betts. we look in pretty good shape structurally imo

I think that they could do alot worse than trying Paddy up forward. He has at times played across half forward in the NAB cup and looked at home. Nash or Rama(who is strong over head and played on Corey Jones in the opening round before he was knocked out) could take Fisher seeing Nat-Rat looks to be out

Nah, Ryder should be our CHB of the future, with Gumby taking CHF. For this week, Welsh should move into the forward line. I prefer him to Ryder up forward, and Ryder over Welsh down back.

I wouldn't be surprised if he played a decent chunk of the game up forward as Knights has trialled him there twice that I've seen. Against the Saints and last week went forward late. As good as Ryder is at holding down CHB I think he could be much more damaging for us in a Goodes versitile type role.
