Within this, around 740,000 people identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or with another non-heterosexual sexual orientation. It's probably close to one million if you count those who haven't come out?

I have no problem with gay people doing anything they want, i am fully supportive of any one who wants to play any sport professionally who is Gay, including playing Aussie Rules Football, but you won't ever see me frequently adorned in rainbow colours in support of it. I can support it without all that stuff, I have no interest in LGBTQ virtue signalling and i don't need to wave any flag or wear any colours to demonstrate my moral correctness.

The real issue is the insecure people who feel the need go voice things like "i don't care", or, "just don't be so visible".

It's good that you don't care, I don't much either but at the risk of coming over a bit Maude Flanders there are gay kids that will care a lot because as it stands there's still nobody like them playing the men's game that they can look up to as a role model. It would be great for them to see a gay player running around to show that you can be honest about who you are and still play elite footy.

Sometimes it requires progression. Perhaps his ability to come out can act as a stepping stone to the full enjoyment of his life.

I do question whether you would be truly happy for him, given your comment is dripping in condescension. Throwing thinly veiled barbs at someone whom has done you no harm surely isn't evidence of you enjoying your best life..rather it signals as to what a sad existence you must lead.
