I hope he doesn't get rubbed out, but maybe due to his haste exit from training last night (first one to leave), he's feeling like he will.

Daniel trained and completed the whole session last night, he was one of the last to leave the track, doing some goal kicking practice at the end with 5 or 6 others.

I'd expect to see him playing the curtain raiser this Friday. :D

Schwatta is losing the plot, what was that carry on with the trainers towel when some guy was going for a goal on Sunday?????????

Striking??? I thought he would have been stiff to even go up for charging Brett Voss.
If the umpires had a look at the video, and saw something akin to striking it probably doesn't augur well for Motlop. Maybe they saw something the rest of us didn't.
Does anyone here have the benefit of video tape to give an honest evaluation?

I thought it was more of a forearm to the head. That's what they have seen too most likely. Probably because of Schwatta's charge and all the ho-ha, they have to look like they are doing something about charging.....

Love the Kanga, Mals.....:)

I am a little worried... to me it was not far different from the Lockett-Craven incident... except Shannon is no where near as big as Lockett... but then one thing we can rely on is the tribunal is rarely consistent... so Shannon should get off...

I think it's more a case of the umpires covering their arses. All they do is just report anything that is borderline and then let the tribunial deal with it.

I saw the Schwass bump on the Saints player, but there was no report made. I also saw Matthew Scarlett (Geelong) on a Port player and he got two weeks. The only difference was that Scarlett got his player about four hours after the Port player took the mark while Schwass was well and truly committed to the bump. I think Motlop's bump/strike/whatever is somewhat closer to what Schwass did than Scarlett......but with the tribunials inconsistency, who knows?

I think that if there is a second camera from the other side, we may see a different thing. Having studied Shannon a bit, iot can be said that is his usual attack on the footy. He tries to strip the ball with one hand (right) while trying to balance with his left arm. That is why his arm was so high. If we had the reverse angle, we may be able to see his attempt at stripping the ball.
Otherwise, he is gone for 2. Maybe Ainley will come in considering we have lost 2 defenders.

Chances are that the tribunal will not have studided Shannon quite as much as you have, and won't pick up on it as being an idiosyncracy of his.
I haven't seen the incident on video since the original broadcast on Saturday, but if the arm leaves his body and makes contact, there's probably a couple of weeks in it for #44.

Darky... I don't think that is really what he wanted...

I'm pretty peeved than Shannon copped 2 weeks.

We all know how bad the umpiring is, but Shannon is a pretty good kid, he wouldn't do anything maliciously and he's honest too.

I read in today's paper that Geoff Walsh believed in Shannon's honestly and so do I.

I hope the appeal works in our favour, especially now that Shan is playing great footy. 2 weeks out can only hurt his confidence.

I JUST READ THAT NORTH HAVE APPEALED!!!!

I havent had much of a chance to look at it as Ive only seen the incident twice, but on first impressions it seemed strikingly similar to what Wirrapunda did to McManus in rnd 4 - ie delivered a shirt-front to a guy in the process of marking the ball. The outcome of what Motlop did looked a bit worse than the wirra incident but basically they were the same.

why was wirrapunda not even cited, while motlop got 2 ????

Motlop loses appeal
By Aap

Thursday, May 24, 2001

KANGAROOS' player Shannon Motlop has lost his appeal against a two match ban for striking.

The AFL Appeals Tribunal tonight upheld Motlop's suspension for striking St Kilda's Brett Voss during their match in Canberra last weekend.

Motlop will miss the Kangaroos match against Carlton tomorrow night at the MCG but the Kangaroos had a $10,000 bond returned to them as the tribunal felt it was not a reckless appeal.
