Just so that it is fresh in people mind's from the last topic.

Lets create an unbiased view of the 2 clubs and their player origins.
The following players have been traded to Essendon from another Club since 1986:
Sean Denham (Geelong)
Paul Barnard (Hawthorn)
Sean Wellman (Adelaide)
Johnothan Robran (Hawthorn)

The following players have been traded to North Melbourne from another Club since 1986:
John Ahem (Melbourne)
Peter Mann (West Coast)
Mark Roberts (Brisbane)
Tim Bourke (Geelong)
Richard Dennis (Carlton)
John Blakey (Fitzroy)
Dean Laidley (West Coast)
John Barnett (Hawthorn)
Matthew Armstrong (Fitzroy)
Glenn Freeborn (Fremantle)
Robert Scott (Geelong)
Bradley Plain (Collingwood)
Kent Kingsley (Port Adelaide)
Wade Kingsley (Port Adelaide)
Winston Abraham (Fremantle)
Shannon Grant (Sydney)
Jason McCartney (Adelaide)
David Calthorpe (Brisbane)
Leigh Colbert (Geelong)

So there you have it Kangaroos 19 trades to Essendon 4 in the last 14 years.
The fact is that Essendon have had almost all of their players come through the ranks after being drafted by the club of either the pre-season or national draft.
While the Kangaroos have been looking to other clubs, finding their stars and taken them. However, the Roos haven't done that great a job because of those 19 trades there is close to 10 dud players. While of Essendon trades, 3 of the 4 have proven to be good players for the club.

If you disgaree with these FACTS, then visit this site: http://www.afl.com.au/7newsafl/draft2000info_14.htm

This is a history of all the drafts and trades made be each club.

Yes, I know that Walshy, however, the keyword is TRADES.
Essendon picked up all those players of the pre-season draft.
If were going to include pre-season draft, it would probably take me close to an hour to type up all of North's players.
Essendon have only picked up 4 players from a TRADE since 1986, compared to North's 19.

Click on the URL, then click on Essendon and you will see all those players were picked up on drafts. Not traded (poached) like North have done to alot of players.

Lets play fair boys and girls...

G4E doesn't play fair when he has to resort to slagging peoples children, who have nothing to do with this forum & have not attacked him in anyway. So as far as I'm concerned, he doesn't deserve fair treatment.

Usually I'm content to let Rooboy96 do all the dirty work, but I have to back him up here. Exactly what is wrong with trading? Well done to Essendon for bringing up so many players through the ranks, but that does not make their premierships worth any more or less than North Melbourne's or Carlton's or anyone elses. As long as it's within the rules, then why not? Clubs MUST DO WHAT THEY CAN WITHIN THE RULES to win a premiership, and trading is within the rules.

Another point that needs to be made is that North Melbourne have brought up plenty players through the ranks. In our 1996 Premiership team, the likes of Carey, Schwass, Rock, Martyn, Crocker, Archer, Sholl, and McKernan were all brought up through the under 19s, and I would argue that they were more important in bringing that cup to Arden Street than any of the players we picked up through trading.

One last point. Why should a player stagnate with one club if they can feel that they can improve their career by moving elsewhere? The Robert Scott-Brad Sholl trade was a win-win. So was the Jason McCartney-Mark Stevens one, and (for a while), the John Blakey-John McCarthy one. The Winston Abraham-Stuart Anderson one was a win-loss in North's favour, but it's not North's fault that Freo could not develop Anderson while we turned Winnie into a premiership player.

Lastly, it could argued that the Eagles '92 and '94 sides are not as worthy as other premiership side simply because you got to pick the best talent from WA and that you got preferential draft choices. It's only in the last season or so that every club has operated on (almost) the same terms draft wise. But, I won't argue that point since it was a reasonable concession to make to establish your side. However, if I were to take such a view, it is as ridiculous an argument in talking down your premierships as it is to talk down North's flags simply because we traded.

Ok then Walshy add Olarenshaw to the list, its still 19-5.
Someone (cant remember, probably Sandie or Derek) mentioned that Essendon have got a lot of homegrown talent, and i am simply backing that up, showing that Essendon haven't relied on trading players from other clubs.

I have not picked on anyone for about 18 hrs...

Hey Dan... The Kangaroos were the BEST team in 1999.. that is why they won the flag...

I feel better now...

We do have a lot of local talent
M.Johnson- Sunbury
M.Mercuri- Keilor Park
J.Johnson- Kilmore
M.Lloyd- Avondale Heights
J.Misiti- Keilor Park
S.Alessio- Essendon
D.Fletcher- Keilor

and you can add mark harvey, ricky olarenshaw, robert stevenson to local boys but my point was we have still obtained players from other clubs aswell, and those figures werent really acurate
i guess you need a mix of both which is something essendon has done well

no rooboy i dont at all
someone else bought it up and i just gave some names

it could help some people not having to leave home to play footy, did you see des headland on the draft, he certainly didnt settle in in brissy
i just suppose its up to the person
