Las Vegas Bears Sunday, 4th, December West Coast Wonders
Stadium in the Sky, Las Vegas, Sweet
3rd Ladder 7th
10 Win 8
6 Loss 9
1 Drawn -
111.56 Percentage 93.83
Last time they met:
Round 5 - West Coast Wonders 11.5 (71) lost to Las Vegas Bears 21.15 (141)
Round 16 - Las Vegas Bears 18.9 (117) lost to West Coast Wonders 21.5 (131)
Last Final:
Coney Island Warriors 25.7 (157) defeated Las Vegas Bears 13.10 (88)
Mount Buller Demons 15.10 (100) lost to West Coast Wonders 18.14 (122)
AN intense first round of finals dusted and two teams finding opposite avenues to the semi final fight it out for a spot against the top two teams with a week's rest to their advantage.
Or perhaps, the advantage will reside with the Las Vegas Bears rekindling the irresistible form that found them streaking to the top of the ladder through the first half of season.
Or maybe, the reigning premiers, West Coast Wonders have fooled the Sweet F.A with a mighty regular season premiership hangover before flicking the switch on a well oiled finals machine confident in their ability to go back-to-back.
The Las Vegas Bears
THE Bears led by Co-Captains Dingster and Matera92 rode the wave of optimism of handing leadership to those capable of wielding it, and as mentioned, showed that in the guise of unbelievable winning form that lasted the opening 7 rounds until being brought down by Baghdad. The Bears hilariously lost to the Wolves soon after and continued to struggle for consistency whilst remaining an imminent threat to topple the other top teams and finish as Minor Premiers. The first consecutive losses came in rounds 12, 13 and 14 to the Dragons, Hawks and Demons, before the boat steadied, reversing fortunes and proving their top tier credentials defeated two of the other top four teams.
A last gasp draw after a controversial re-sim that denied the Furies their rightful finals appearance saw the Bears sneak into a tight top four and luckily earn the double chance at moving through to the final four. Now looking forward to securing a spot in the prelim, the Bears are focused on making the final day of the year, and are committed to #doingitforAntBear.
How they got here:
FOR a team with a stacked midfield and half flank lines, with a wealth of options to choose from like the Bears, they simply did not show up against Coney Island when it counted, losing the tackle count and inside 50's. The midfields lack of effectiveness compounded the forward lines struggles of inconsistency in their kicking, registering 10 behinds in the last game.
Another problem for the team's cohesiveness was that league mainstay Magruder, who polled prominently in the Media's Qootier of the Year Award in the early rounds during the streak was benched early, spending only 54% of the time on the field.
Player to watch: brahj
BRAHJ is the barometer of an elite bears team, when the dominant but erratically accurate forward has his shooting boots on watch out, the Bears are a seriously dangerous threat to taking home a premiership. The problem for the Bears is making sure the right boots find their way to his feet each week.
An early shout for the Alf Andrews, brahjs good goalkicking form quickly diminshed from his hot start and the Bears brilliant form ebbed and flowed with his inconsistency. Finishing over double digits down from eventual winner Gray Day whilst also unluckily leading the league in behinds with 39. Brahj was decent in the First Final, finishing with 4.2 but only touched the ball six times and laid one tackle. If the Bears full forward can bring a furious tackling energy to their forward line and presents to the right spots for the elite midfield to hit up, expect brahj to have a dramatic say in the way this game goes, even if he will most likely miss a few sitters.
Player to throw to the wolves if they underpeform: Dingster
DINGSTER has been the perfect co-captain for the Bears, and perfectly balances the also good, more...'infamous' matera92 whose well known around the broader Sweet F.A for his self proclaimed "media whoring" and sublime Qooty skills to match whilst he has also admitted Dingster is the "brains behind the leadership group."
The Brains had a poor game against Coney, and was required to step up when the Warriors piled on a slide of goals the team from Las Vegas failed to recover from. He finished the game with 21 disposals and 4 tackles, but only 63 Dream Points whilst his partner exceeded 100. If the Co-Captain doesn't lift to drag his team against the line as he has done so multiple times this season, there may be a few more knives finding another back in the tumultuous Las Vegas hierarchy.
Player to read after the first, better player: kane249
"3 : .59 {rHBF} - boncer34 ran into kane249 and came off second-best. "
"3 : 8.57 {rHBF} - kane249 sews boncer34 up in a fantastic tackle.
3 : 9.03 {lHFF} - kane249 with the ball now.
3 : 9.06 {lHFF} - That's a massive kick from kane249.
3 : 9.07 {lHFF} - What a statement by kane249. "
THE elite midfield group at Las Vegas is home to many stars, but only one player excelled last week as the team struggled to find any momentum in a fairly one sided game. Kane249 finished 3rd in disposals in the regular season and after promotion to 'Vice President of Partying and General Awesometivity' this season showed serious signs of his league superstar potential, the player now only fighting with Matera for title to the worst username with numbers at the Bears lifted his game to another level as finals reached the Stadium of the Sky.
The midfielder piled on a team high 116 DreamTeam points in the form 25 possessions, 7 marks, 4 tackles and two goals. Also kicking two behinds, the Bears will need to be a lot more clinical and work as unit in the middle to fend off the Wonders.
