The notion of posting frequency is interesting.

Some weeks I will post heaps in a match thread and other weeks less so.

Generally I will post more when the bantz are amusing and engaging. Of course what is happening in the Real and time are factors for everyone.

Post counts are easy enough to measure. Post quality is a different kettle of fish.

Some prolific posters can be under appreciated. The quality of their posts risk being discounted by the volume.

The sweet spot is 42.5 posts per match thread.

Interesting ..... i didn’t see that in the rules ... must check again

Here’s a novel idea ... let players have fun & want to come back and engage ..... it should be about retention of rookies, not annual turnover of rookies

Maybe a bit revolutionary though .....

Here's a novel idea, maybe don't get too offended about a cracked joke made at somebody else and not at you.

Here's an even more novel idea... this league has been thriving long before you were here so your "revolution" is an unsound strategy. In fact, there's been a downturn over the last few seasons and I would not be surprised if a lot of that was people actually trying to engage, like you've requested, but find that impossible against people that feel the need to post 200 times across five days, for four months solid. You're worried about retention of rookies... big deal. That's a small number. I'm worried about retention of everybody.

People should be allowed to have fun but they need to be able to cop it, as should their precious captains, when everybody else turns around and says no cockos, this ain't fun for us.

Frankly mate you're the most blinkered bloke in this entire league - it's not the BFA. There's 11 other clubs. ****ing listen to them for once. If it isn't your tantrum yesterday because nobody agrees with on who you think is the best rookie in the league it's garbage like this.

Imo, the issue isn’t post quantity per sei, it’s when people make it their highest priority.

I’m like you, sometimes I’ll only post around 10 times, others I go on a posting frenzy. I generally just go with the flow and enjoy myself, which is what the league is about.

The issue is when people become fixated on reaching a certain number or becoming the threads highest contributor. They obsessively click the top contributors numbers then tap each other on the bum once they’ve hit a milestone. The problem with this is, they end up just posting for the sake of posting which then leads to pages and pages of tripe.

Few here will have an issue if you hit 100 posts in a match thread, but they will if you just sit there making post after post just for the sake of turning it into a dick measuring contest.

I doubt many people would watch their post count.

You're dead right... many don't.

You'd see it as an occasional gimmick of course.

We do it as a laugh, Filth. That’s all. It’s not meant to be he who posts more wins.

It’s about enjoyment.

Antonio, it's not personal on you and I think you know that, we get on well.

There has to come a point though where your captain canvasses for engagement, whether it's for rookies or others and ask, who are people engaging with when they post in the hundreds? There'd need to consistently be multiple people posting in the hundreds from different clubs to achieve true engagement and even that is far too exclusive to be any form of fun for the majority.

As a long time captain in this league the one challenge we have with rookies is keeping them engaged, part of the talk when first off they are nervous and trying to find a voice and secondly aren't aware of the in jokes and characters in the league. The absolute worst thing we can present to them is one sided walls of posts where even long term posters just can't be bothered trying to find a gap to banter. Now I'm noticing it's not just rookies struggling with this, it's the casuals that are leaving, the old timers leaving because it's just too much to bother with.

Clubs have team threads and PM's where they can go nuts talking and talking among themselves. I hate the term spam so if there is a member of the Bombers, or any other club, that engages freely in "mass posting" that can present a scenario where random ramblings and people posting hundreds of posts is beneficial to the Sweet FA, to the retention of its players (not their players, the leagues players) or is a display of actual engagement with the vast majority of those hundreds of individual posts hitting their target or adding to an ongoing repartee with THE OPPOSITION then I'll gladly concede.

If not, then I hope, heading into this next off season, we can find a way to all meet in the middle - don't glorify one poster because they posted more than four clubs all up... help those four ****ing clubs to engage more. Restraint, rapport, repartee. Help people be their best poster, not their most and help everybody reach similar heights so this league thrives long into the future. It's far too good a community to lose carelessly.

And for what it's worth, I don't want anybody to feel like they're being victimised here. The "post quantity" debate is one of the most cyclical discussions in the league. Spam, inactivity... it's as inevitable a regular heated discussion as all-SFA discussion.
