Round 5 sees the return of Rivalry Round, celebrating some of the most intense rivalries in the history of the Sweet FA. From the Foundation Cup clubs the Demons and the Wonders, through to the recent antipathy between the Bombers and the Hawks, the tribalism of the SFA clubs has bred and nurtured some ferocious rivalries.

Mount Buller Demons vs West Coast Wonders at SFA Park (Saturday 29 February 2020)

The first, and most enduring, Rivalry in the league, the only remaining Foundation clubs have built a fierce antipathy. This is the 500th H&A game for each club, and their 63rd meeting overall…with the ledger unbelievably tied at 31 wins each. There has never been a draw between these two clubs.

In recognition of the milestone and their contributions to the league, this game will be played in Saturday night, as a standalone spectacle, and is the biggest, most anticipated H&A match in living memory.

Starting as the Seventh Wonders and Team Pump respectively, their first meeting was in Round 2 of Season 1, and in a high scoring affair, the Demons claimed first blood.

First meeting: S1 R2 24/3/01 Team Pump 26.18.174 def Seventh Wonders 18.19.127

The Wonders won the inaugural premiership, however, and went on to dominate the competition between Seasons 13 and 21 with a further 4 flags, while the hapless Demons had to wait until S18 to claim their first Premiership, and doubled their tally in S26. The Demons do boast the league’s best collection of wooden spoons…

There have been many notable finals between these two clubs, with the finals ledger sitting at 4-1 in favour of the Wonders. Incredibly, they have never met in the ultimate decider!:

So looking forward to this match up.

We will be way to strong. As long as the SIM leaves us alone for a change.

Demons will try hard to Banter, but pretty much they just want the hurt to be over. Here is to a cracking week.

Hi Headless,

Would you like to be insular again this week?

Kind regards,
