After a quick search, I couldn't find any previous fishing thread.

Anyone around here a keen angler?

Coming into summer, I thought it might be a good idea to discuss fishing spots and/or ideas.

I love a good fish, but unfortunately haven't been getting out as much as I should. I class myself as a part time angler, fishing around once, twice or three times a month. Lately I've been aiming for once a week off of various jetties, usually on the Fleurieu. My usual local spots are Port Noarlunga and Second Valley.

I usually fish for squid. Easy set up, mess free, tastes great and can be caught in most places.

Used to go for squid with a mate off Lady Bay. Then when it's too late/early for squid, throw a line in for some whiting.

If you want to travel, head to the Illusions Ground off Whyalla /Cowell (we went from Pt Broughton but it's a fair hike across).

Last trip a few years back we bagged out on snapper, including my 13kg beast. :drunk: Just fit on our 6-burner BBQ.

Any squid off there? I've been meaning to check that area out.

Haven't tried Lady Bay. I work in Normanville, so I have no excuse not to have tried it - perhaps I'll go over in my lunch break today. :D

Being a Victorian I feel I have no place here :p But I have family in Robe and usually go out there for Crays and fishing in the bay and open sea.

Some good beach fishing spots as well a little off the beaten track as well.

I'm happy to hear of some good Victorian spots too! I go over there often.

I tried Mornington Jetty last time I was there. Couldn't get a nibble (trying for squid) but I did notice a load of dead star fish on the jetty. Not sure what that was all about...

Down Nelson way in the mouth of the river is great. I caught some good Bream and Whiting there.

Couple of good lakes and rivers around home I regularly go to to get some reddys or yellow belly or carp for shotgunning.

Mate, when the snapper are biting out there, the last thing you're thinking of is squid!

We used to go off of Lady Bay (not far offshore) and if you get the right time of day you're laughing.

Yep, plenty of snapper in that area. Caught plenty of snapper off Normanville and Carrackalinga. Looking forward to snapper season opening

Had my retail therapy for the day. Bought myself a new Daiwa Aird 3000sh combo for a casual $170 plus $30 for some braided line. Looking to give it a whirl at Cape Jervis at 6am tomorrow morning. Word is that the squid and tommies are going nuts off there at the moment.
