SA Government Energy Plan

SA to spend $150 Million on an Energy Plan.

Long overdue, pretty sad indictment that the Federal Governments (of all persuasions) has shown no leadership on this issue.

Aspects of the plan:
  • New Plant up before 2019 (Probably unlikely)
  • grid powered battery to ensure energy security
  • Movement away from Coal fired to gas fired power stations
  • Plan to pay Land Owners money for access to fracking
  • Reduction in reliance on interconnectors
Cautious optimism from various energy groups so far.

Energy Security will continue to be a major issue for Australia into the future- so I admire the outline of a plan as its a step in the right direction.

It should drive down the cost of power.
Power companies make money when high demand causes price spikes and this should minimise any potential for those.

I also love how the State Owned Asset is the new black
Supply > Profit

It must be a good idea because the Feds have already slammed it.

Friedenberg - cost will go up but didn't expand. It is almost as if they won't continue to increase anyway.

I am so over journalists not doing their job.

Fryberg still playing the privatised competition is the best line...the proof is in the pudding it dont work but the free market is their religion.

Worst thing that could happen to the Libs a "socialist" solution

It should drive prices down as the peaks will be flattened and thats where the Corporations gouge the profits.

It puts a knife to the Libs Labor and the Greens are bad for power prices scare campaign.
We arent climate change deniers but we love coal and wind mills are ugly

all they have left will be a Capital Gains tax and Negative gearing scare campaign
and we are crueller to poor brown people

Not quite sure why you think the Feds are to blame here. The so-called "National" Electricity Market is nothing more than a hodge-podge of state markets badly bolted together.

The National Electricity Law is enacted by the SA Parliament with duplicate legislation in other State parliaments. Ditto the Gas Law and Energy Retail Law. The gas export policies are almost completely controlled by the State governments who own the gas and love the royalties.

The only inputs the Feds have is through the regulator (AER) which is an offshoot of the ACCC and therefore nominally under Canberra control, and also the renewable energy target.

Every time in the past 20 years any Federal Government has tried for any sort of centralised policy the States have snarled back to protect their turf.

It'd be nice to blame the Feds but this mess is almost solely caused by the States.

For me the thing is not so much the blame game but what should be done to fix it. If the feds can't do much about it then fair enough, but they shouldn't be having a go at SA for undermining the national system when it has quite clearly failed them and no federal leadership has emerged to rectify the issue.

Gas plant is just insurance.
Instant power plan c
Back-up to replace the coal fired one that they always had which mysteriously failed to switch on whenever it suited the Liberal propaganda machine.
SA is totally right to aim to supply their entire electricity requirements from within.
Who would trust frak ups like Turnbull and Frydenburg?

instant power built, capex paid for and running in the background with opex....hmmm, good insurance or poor policy?

renewables will work when storage is available at sensible prices
