Interesting declaration, with an agreement we wouldnt follow on.

Gives us first innings points atleast. :p
Im happy with it - its show that we have finally grown a couple and are GOING for the win rather than play out a draw

IF Vics want to play more shots that gives us a better chance of taking wickets - getting wickets early is the critial part

We dont have the bowling attack to make things happen on a road like this. Sure George is turning into a good bowler, maybe even better than that but we still lack the strike power. Sadly the Vics SHOULD get the runs easily enough, hopefully we nab a couple of wickets quick and they take their foot off the pedal.

It was a terrible declaration, should have given them 420+ off of 80 overs to get the win, not a paltry 380 off 96.

At least the Deadbacks are now returning to regular service :thumbsu: Should drop their bundle for the rest of the season before winning the last game, to finish a "respectable", "improved" and "on the way up next year" 3rd or 4th

It doesn't really matter too much though, we have nothing to lose really as the Vics are above us and we had to give ourselves a chance of taking 10 wickets.....

We've now gifted the Bushrangers another 6 points and made their position at the top impenetrable. Trying to ensure a result is one thing, but suicidally handing them points, and guaranteeing they don't have to look over their shoulder, or worry about playing the final away from home, is just stupidity.

Agree with all this, should have just grabbed the two points for first innings points and moved on.

We keep our first innings points though dont we?

So basically, we've accepted Victoria will finish top, and we obviously placed value on the two points putting us up into second.

By gifting them the points in such a stupid fashion, we've gone from what would have been this situation

DEC Bushrangers 4 14
West End Redbacks 5 10

to this

DEC Bushrangers 4 20
West End Redbacks 5 10

That's a freebie 6 points, an absolute gift that has all but cemented them at the top of the table after a game they deserved nothing out of. Without those 6 points, they're one loss away from surrendering top spot to us or the Bulls, with it they have a 2 game break, plus a mountain of confidence and momentum heading into a makeup game that will probably leave them 16 clear.

There is no other way to put it, the entire match was a colossal error as soon as Manou accepted the first Victorian declaration, let alone after giving them a whole day to score a paltry 380 runs on a flat deck.

You want to know how to do it right, look at our match against Queensland earlier in the season - rather than make a spectacle they played it safe, didn't go for the win and stopped us from getting a free win after we grabbed first innings points. Instead of being 5 points behind us, they're only 1 point behind us, and will more than likely finish ahead of us in the table.

Come on

The declaration was perfect. The bowling wasn't. How often are 380 scored in a day to win a game? Very rarely.

As much as Bailey bowling wicketless through the last day against Queensland hurt him and caused him to be dropped, the Redbacks only taking only four wickets yesterday has probably helped his cause.

Don't know what Manou was thinking.

A couple of days ago Tassie chased 350 on the final day off 85 overs.

He set Victoria 381 off 113 overs at less than 3.5rpo on a pitch where SA scored 6/500+

Could have easily batted for another 13 overs and set VIC 450 off 100 overs.

He is the Captain of a state where the lasting legacy of Captains and Coaches from yester year are to pump up your own tyres and NOT to consider the job at hand. Not saying he is like that but the ghosts of past are still around

If Manou had just kept batting and played out a draw there would have been plenty of people criticising him for being too negative...

No Way a Draw against the Vics for us would have been a good result hard to believe we got them cheaply in the first was not going to happen in the 2nd

Hookes started this and from memory had a huge fall out with Lawson once.

4/270ish after 44, Cosgrove 100, We need to go on and post 350 from here, Borgas hits them well, Cosgrove is hitting them well, 350 should be something to bowl at.

Tait will Finally produce some great cricket and tomorrows advertiser will read, "The Wild Thing is Back" the article will comlpeetly ignor Cooper's great knock and lable Cosgrove as to over weight, Just pick the easy stories and give us a D grade review.

My major worry is that if our reasonably talented batting lineup can make 340 against a so-so attack, what are that mob, most of whom are or could play ODI cricket, going to do to our so-so attack.

15 more runs and id have been very comfortable but hey who knows, we could be on for a win, heres hoping !! :thumbsu:
