A club that won 3 flags with the last in 2015, then got rid of the most successful coach in the modern era, let go of a bunch of star players, went to the bottom, then came all the way back up to competing at the pointy end?

Hawks are the opposite of a nowhere club. They're always on the move, hunting their next flag. Its why they're so successful.

Please don't give that club too much credit.

1. They benefitted from being 'good' when expansion clubs were raiding the drafts
2. They didn't earn the right nor deserve to host the 2014 and 2015 grand finals (Sydney and West Coast respectively earned the right - it wouldn't be a stretch to suggest Hawthorn would have lost both games had they played on foreign turf)
3. They didn't earn the right nor deserve to compete in the 2014 and 2015 grand finals (umpiring got them over the line in both the 2014 and 2015 preliminary finals - the umpiring in the 2015 prelim is the most blatant display of game changing intervention in any sport I have ever witnessed)

Go Port on Sunday, smash them.

The reference is from Lethal Weapon 2
Yes it is, but I first heard the term way back in about 1970 when the R-certificate classification first commenced in Australia, and full frontal nudity was a fairly regular occurrence in movies with that classification.

I can't recall the name of the particular film but it included quite a few `R' rated scenes, and I can still recall the bloke sitting in front of me and my gf saying quite loudly during one particular scene, `check out the map of Tassie on that bird!' resulting in a number of patrons seated in his vicinity having a bit of a giggle.

Chewy mate I think you’ve missed the point a bit
At the start of those 8 years the hawks had come off a three peat and an earlier flag in 08, they totally rebuilt their list and rose back to the top (chaired by a club great at the helm) in the same time we milled around opening jars of farts over home and away records, throwing golden opportunity after golden opportunity away

I took it to mean you’ve had your time and you shat the bed it’ll be our time next time we meet and you know what if that’s what he meant he’s right
Did you miss that Sicily said this last year?

Just after a younger Port side had knocked his bunch of clowns out of the finals?

Lethal Weapon 2 is the source for "Diplomatic Immunity" not Map of tassie.

This sounds like the justifications of Ken's diary: it's all externalities (and luck) that is to blame for Port's finals failures, everyone else is lucky!

Yeah Ken, Brisbane were 13th at one stage. You know who they played then? Port Adelaide. You don't get to turn your season around by embarassing Ken Hinkley's Port Adelaide on Adelaide Oval.

Hardest task in football moite.

You could read it that way - but it was about Hawthorn and the obvious inequality of the league.

I can defend Ken for the 2014 preliminary final loss but every finals loss since then has been a disgrace, aside MAYBE the prelim loss to Richmond, but Port should have really won that on home soil.

The 2014 PF was daylight robbery, that last minute free to Hawthorn saved them from certain defeat and i truly belive Port would have walloped the Toilet Ducks in the big dance. You also missed the fact that the WestCoast elimination final loss resulted from a Shuey dive on the siren.
Hawthorn have a long history of getting the rub of the green especially in tight games and games with major consequences. Three examples off the top of my head- 1987 last round vs Geelong at Kardinia Park, free to Dunstall dead in front for a dive, Geelong missed the finals by half a game. 1988 night series final, Dunstall again on the siren, this time a 'push out' , three point win to Hawthorn, 1989 GF, benefitted from tiggy touch frees all day after Yeates decked Brereton early, particularly in the last quarter when Hawthorn were gassed and being totally overrun. Some things in football never change.

Yeah, that one tends to skate by as a mulligan due to how close it was — and Richmond were en route to securing their immortality as a three flag dynasty — but holy sh¡t.

We had the week off, won the inside50’s by 14, and held them to their lowest score since Round 5.

Yet still lost, because as always when the big game is at its hottest, our ‘1-wood’ turned into a noodle, as the general and too many of his soldiers melted in the spotlight.

Pathetic.

I seem to recall the Cornes move to defence being more around 2002 when he finally revoked Darren Mead's gold pass, several years too late?
Trading out Guerra was a dumb, dumb move. Cockatoo Collins was another justified delisting. Was soft and offered nothing after about 2001.

Cornes played one match at CHB in 2002 which was the final round against Brisbane where he played on - and beat - Jon Brown.

Guerra was let go because he went out drinking with Stevens after the Sydney final and lost the faith of the players and coaching group.

Whoa there cowboy!

Have you considered that perhaps he didn't have a good enough playing list to win that game? Some luminaries say he was 'doing the most with the least' and 'making champagne out of pickle juice'.

It's not like that team was good enough to beat 14 of the other 17 teams - including Richmond - in the H&A season, sitting on top literally from start to finish before beating Geelong (1 of the 3 teams that had beaten it during the season) in the first final.

You Port fans really do think it's still the SANFL. You can't win it every year!

The 2014 prelim was littered with farcical decisions, particularly in the second quarter to change momentum, and the final few minutes where two horrendous non-decisions denied Port forward 50 entries.

I may not agree wit you about politics but seems we share a similar disrespect for Hawthorn.

The centre bounce performance in that game was absolutely criminal.

We were the best clearance differential side in the league. Richmond were the 16th best clearance side in the league. We lost the centre clearances 11-4, and our 4 were 15m hacks up in the air.

Which meant our primary advantage was entirely nullified. We couldn't take advantage of the 6-6-6 against Richmond's elite transition defence, we had to launch every attack from halfback giving them ample time to setup. And we lost despite holding our opponent to 46 points.

Scott Lycett should have been delisted on the spot, and Ken Hinkley and our midfield coach sacked.

Hartlett probably should have been delisted on the spot too. As much as we don't want to admit it, not everything is in Ken's control.

Dixon pulling out before the game to be replaced by eight-year-old Will Lorenz is the only reason we were "younger" than the Hawks in that match surely 😂 😂

You don't need to worry about the map of Tasmania any more. It's extinct.Ironically, and please do not take this personally- killed off by Brazilians.
So many `maps of Tassie' have been decimated by the Brazillian razor strategy that many people today may have to search for an old copy of Playboy to see an original.

I have a very well treasured copy of June 1975 featuring Margot Kidder. Don't get much better than that..😉

Rolling the dice on Ryan Burton who’d already broken down mid-game thrice previously in an injury-riddled season that didn’t feature a sub rule, was yet another gold star “if we had our time again…” to add to the list.

For an added bonus, I see Rozee and Wines found themselves stranded on the bench alongside Burton and the concussed Ebert when the whips were cracking at the end — thankfully that was the first and only time we ever blew our rotations in a high stakes game decided by a kick…
