The painful thing is that Ken and the club are legitimately insulted when it's suggested that our past two seasons achievements mean nothing without a premiership.

Other multiple recipients of the award:

Worsfold - Premiership coach
Mark Thompson - 2x premiership coach
John Longmire - Premiership coach
Luke Beveridge - Premiership coach

Multiple recipients without a flag.
Ken Hinkley.

Some would say he's a trailblazer.

The illustrious list of coaches of the year who haven't won a flag.

Neil Craig - sacked
Ross Lyon - sacked
Ken Hinkley x2
Nathan Buckley - sacked
Chris Fagan

He's the invisible man, not even management notices he's here.
The fact that a guy that has never coached a team to a Grand Final, let alone won one, has won the award twice shows just what a joke award the AFL Coach Of The Year really is.

It's a bit rubbish. The award is the Mchale for shitters.

Clarko has never been coach of the year despite 4 flags, and as a young coach beating the coach of that year with a 23-1 record going into the GF, and Clarko out coaching him

You could almost understand him winning the award early in his career, when he'd taken over from the shithouse Primus years and well and truly exceeded expectations. Him winning it in 2020 was a joke though. Sure, we 'exceeded expectations' that year too, but the reason expectations were so low in the first place was because of his crappy coaching the previous 5 years. It's like naming Ralph Wiggum the smartest kid in your class because he finally managed to go a year without eating paste.

The first year was fine, new coach etc. etc. At least then also our position after finals was superior to before them. No coach making finals should be in the running for coach of the year, if they finish lower after finals than the home & away. How on earth he gets rewarded for blowing finishing top to out via a home prelim loss is mind-boggling.

lol, if so it's even a bigger joke than I previously thought.
The All Oz side is picked after 22 home and away games and journo's, commentators and footy fans used to jump up and down that the coach should be the premiership coach, not the best coach for the home and away season. So the AFL changed it, think in 1999 or after end of 1999 season and the All Oz side gets named in SF week and the coach after the GF.

When the Coaches Association was set up in 2002 they decided their first awards in 2003 they would select their coach of the year their own way and different to the AFL.

He should have won worst coach of the year 2015-2019

I can picture Hinkley chuffed at home with his coach of the year awards while Clarkson drowns himself in Jock Mchale medals.

Hey Clarko, check out my two AFLCA Coach Of The Year awards.
Mate, I've got twice that many McHales.
Youse know playing finals is overrated, right?
