Very sad news and will effect Austin and the Tiwi Bombers this coming season.

Not sure if many of you guys are aware but in Aboriginal culture it is taboo to speak the name or show images of the deceased so out of respect to Aussie perhaps no more photos? I say that with the greatest respect on another clubs board.

I never know what to say in these types of situations. Nothing ever sounds right for some reason, in these tragic events. So with that being said, I will say this:

R.I.P Matthew Wonaeamirri. Condolenses to the entire family, especially Aussie. This must be so hard on him right now, I can only imagine. :(

Shocking news, RIP.

Will never forget him celebrating at the end of that game with the Lions.

Demonology & Demonland sites are organising a whip around for a special tribute from all MFC supporters.

Open thread 'Aussie Tribute' on Demonology or 'Tribute to Matthew Wonaeamirri' on Demonland for more info.

Let's help Aussie's family with their Pukumani Tribute to honour Aussie's dear father. We fans can show our respect and love independant of anything the club organises and I am sure it will be noticed and appreciated. I have made a few calls and Judith R. has kindly already called Jilamara Arts and Craft Association on behalf of Demonology (and hopefully Demonland) who are happy to handle the contributions and make sure all goes to the specific needs. Perhaps to the cost of a Pukumani pole? All these things including feeding all guests can be really expensive. We are family.

Please pledge here and we will also post the bsb numbers so that you can contribute direct. Ref: W.Tribute would identify us.

Wona is doing it really tough as you would imagine, but there is a very strong chance that he will not be back... Apparently Davey stayed on up there to try to talk him in to coming back down south, but he is prepared to give it all away... (Source, member of playing group...)

That would be tragic if we lost Aussie! Can't blame the guy though. Very tough time and I guess he wants to be with his people!

I've had a bad feeling that he might not come back.

Would be a great shame and a loss to footy.

I don't mean to be insensitive to the situation, but if this does happen, what can we do about replacing him? Can we only evlevate a rookie and put Aussie on the rookie list for the year? I know the club can't push the guy, but I am sure they would like to know before this pre-season draft.

Not really my place to comment, but I hope he does come back down. I was really looking forward to watching him play next year.
He has a definite something about him which I think attracts oppo supporters to his game. Sad loss for the game if he decides to stay at home, but understandable.

I know it is hard to gauge exactly how Aussie is feeling at a time like this but did you get the sense (from the info passed on to you) that Aussie feels a family/community responsibility to stay up North or is it more of a personal preference?

I took it that it was a bit of both, My view was that I would of thought he would do more for 'the community' by playing footy for us, but I was made told of one of the rituals at the funeral that spun me out & therefore I come to the conclusion that I just have to accept his decision as I have NO understanding as to how it all works for our indigenous communities...
