For those of you that thought Saddam Hussein had reached the height of lunacy, he has just outdone himself. Today every single prisoner in every single Iraqi jail has been freed in celebration of Saddam's re-election in last weeks poll. This includes those on death-row, they were just allowed to walk free. Gee, you'd be feeling safe of the streets of Baghdad wouldnt you  .

He didn't release any people guilty of spying for the US or Israel, funny that i thought they wouldn't be alive still anyway.

This is crazy. I couldn't beleive my ear's when I heard this the other day! Didn't think he could be anymore twisted. Fancy releasing crims just because your feeling happy!

Well, you'd hardly do it if you were in a bad mood.

What a fantastic idea! John Howard must follow his example and do the same.

Eddie McGuire would be over the moon as Collingwood's crowd numbers soar.

He can always have them picked up again and have them thrown right back into the poke. That way he will be seen to be fighting crime.

Meanwhile, everyone remembers his nice gesture in celebration of his landslide election victory over......nobody.

I didn't think there were any spare seats or memberships

All it would take is 1 gunshot to the head and its lights out for SADAM WHO'S PRAYING (4 HES LIFE) kill em all the ARAB prickes!

Go The Pies!

Dan

Go THe Richo!

UNLEASH THE VL TURBO!

The worst part about it is alot of them will probably arrive on our shores in the next couple of months in dilapidated boats claiming asylum from the Iraqs oppressive regime.

just to clarify....as strange as he is, saddam didnt release everyone. murderers need the consent of their victims families before being released and its thought this will only occur in a few instances.

The US president LBJ once made a statement about all the people in Cuban jails being political prisoners. So Fidel had them all prisoners released and deported them to the USA.

Love the fact that he won the recent elections, being the only candidate he not only had a tough opponent but a killer of a campaign schedule!

On the prisoner release - it must be a tough prison when you have to take your own mattress! Or was that a consdition of their release?:D

Hi guys,

New here, so before i start I'd like to say hi to everyone.

Ok, not that formalities are out of the way, i can add my two bob.

I'm just curious if any of you have actually researched the region, the politics of the middle east. What the place is really like.

Take it from me, this is another planet when compared to the west. Everything is different, not better, not worst, but different. (Well lifestyle is definately worst, i can vouch for that)

Before i go on, let me explain a bit bout myself. I'm an Australian with Egyptian parents. I've spent most of my life here in aust, but been to egypt bout 10 times, as i was growing up.

Let me first say that Saddam is a b**stard, a**hole, murder, lier...i can go on all day. Not a nice guy at all.

But what p's me off is that, he's really no worst then any other arab leader. There all the same, just as bad as Saddam. The only difference is Saddam is an enemy of the US(not always the case as u all know)

I'm reading your threads, and unfortunately, very similar to the crap spread in our papers.

Let me compare say Iraq to Egypt for example. Saddam kills his own people, so does Mubarak (Egypts president). Saddam has ridiculous rigged elections, so does Mubarak (in egypt every knows his son will be the next president, not bad for a 'democracy' hey). Saddam kills and jails his opponents, so does Mubarak(have a look at the Human rights website). So you ask what the difference is, one thing, and one thing only. One is a US lap dog, and the other is an enemy of the US.

You may ask what the point of this message is, not sure myself. hehe. I'm in no way defending Saddam. He deserves what he gets. But i believe so does all the other leaders of the Arab world. And do you want to know what they all have in common. They all owe there rule to the west. They were all put in power by the west, (US/British empire) to control the masses. The Saudi's were put in power by the british, after a power struggle with the Hashemite's(King Hussien of Jordan). The Hashemites were then given Jordan to keep the piece. Jordan by the way was trans-jordan which included palestine and present day Israel.

This was all done to control the arab masses, and control the gold mine they call oil. Then the media feeds us all this crap, and in the end they create our opinions for us. I repeat Saddam is no worst then a number of world leaders that hardly get a mention.

Lets play a game, for every bad point Sadam has, i'll give u two world leaders that have done far worst.

I REPEAT: I'M NOT DEFENDING HIM. JUST HOPING TO OPEN SOME OF YOUR EYES!

There is an excellent documentary made in 2001 that focuses on the why do the middle eastern countries hate America debate? It is fascinating viewing and opens your eyes to the situation.
It is titled: "Letter To America" and is narrated by an american journalist born in the middle-east

I don't know if i've said this before on this board but see it anyway.

It screened on SBS last year and is probably available from most libraries (most likely Uni).

It certainly puts Bush's 'they hate us because we have freedom' argument to shame!

And yes, there are a lot of bad oppressive, dictatorial regimes in the world.:(
