Since I've been on here i've got the vibe that many don't rate him.
Why?
I happen to think he should be getting a game in our defence.
I thought he did alright last year when played.
 
He can't jump to save his life, and his kicking is average. He's not good enough to displace: Waite, Bower, Thornton, Jamison, or even Bannister. He's not quick enough to take the smalls they don't. On the plus side he's experienced and expendable.

Does that cover it?
 
Thornton at times I find him our weakest defender. This season i think he has improved. I would stick Waite forward and put Saddington in.
I think his coverage is good and IMO he reads the play well.

He's an OK player? Wouldn't mind seeing him have another go. Could he Pinch hit in the forward line? He's a good marking target and could be used as a decoy for fev and fish! :P

He could be used as a decoy for wood ducks. That's more likely than him being selected as a key marking forward.

1 person I would pick Saddo for NO DOUBT ABOUT IT on that list is Adam Hartlett! I personally don't rate him, harsh but honestly, he is an ABSOLUTE LIABILITY TO THE CARLTON FOOTBALL CLUB!
 
He may get a gig now that Thornton will miss six or so weeks......but he did train with the rehab group last Friday so I don't really know where he is ftiness wise.
Carlos may get a recall ahead of him for thornton...not sure!

yes sorry i meant that I would rate Saddington higher than the following.
Not in their positions.
Carrazzo though has been playing back pocket, on the line up.

Don't rate Houlihan anymore, too slow and to soft. I agree Saddo is not the quickest but I think he has a lot to offer!

He'll be very lucky to still be here. Was only saved last year by Big Red's forced retirement.

It all depends on our situation at season's end. We know there will be at least three new faces on the list, so at least three will go. I don't think we'll have any trouble filling that dinghy, and Saddo will be near the front of the queue.

OTOH, never underestimate a bloke in the last year of his contract!

Have to think Ackland, Wiggins, Saddington and Blackwell are most likely.
 
If you beleieve the idea of all teams having a Premiership window or clock you would say Carlton are currently at about 9PM. Our chance for a flag should be at it's peak in about 2011-2012. If that is the case then we cannot waste games on somebody like Saddington, Wiggins, Ackland.
We all know we cannot make the finals this year and make any impact so I can't see why we would use these 3 players as stop gap solutions to long term problems. We need to be giving the young untried players game time to see who is and who isnt up to it.
 
I don't think he's got a spot in our best 22, but he's a handy bloke to have around the club, particularly with the injuries we've got now.

What about the 100 games difference in experience? Saddington can be more than handy when fit but unfortunately couldn't play the youth card or "we're developing him" excuse when our entire defence was getting the shit kicked out of it week-in week-out during Pagan's reign. I think Saddo would do a lot better in todays side.

It's not a matter of his quality or his past it is his future.
Lets say that he plays every game for the rest of the year and we win say 6 games 4 of them directly due to his influence. Then at the end of the year when he is 29 the match committee decide to let him go. Are we better off for having him play this year?
I am not bagging him and saying he is shit but he is not the future at Carlton.

I think this is a good post. Maybe some people are right that Saddington would currently be a good option. But let's keep developing new players. It may seem weird, but will probably help us in 3 years time.
