Here are the points for Belcher and Ryan.

They can have a shocker in either race 9 or 10, and because their worst so far is 5th in race 2, they would still win the gold if are top 5 in the race that they don't have a shocker in, and then a top 5 in the gold medal race, they would still hold on to the gold.

Whoever decided to bring in Kovalenko back in 1997(?) deserves a medal themselves.
I don't think this answers your question specifically, but this webpage but more importantly the video embedded of when Victor was an inaugural inductee of the new Sailing Hall of Fame in 2017 is worth a read and a watch to see why the man is so great.

He mentions a couple of names in the video, where Gordon Bray does a 2 minute intro piece, then interviews him and on stage with Victor he has 2000 Olympics 470 gold medal medalists Jenny Armstrong and Belinda Stowell, talk about Victor. An incredibly humble with an old fashion values of integrity and respect and of just trying to help others be better.

It was 2017 and he was preparing for 2020 Olympics - still had unfinished business.

So it looks like… 470 men with a strong lead and the Nacra 17 a chance at bronze? The others out of contention.

Correct.

I don't share Iain Murray's confidence around the wind filling in though.

I suspect they won't get much racing in today and we'll be back for the last couple of 470 races tomorrow.

My maths might be wrong but it looks like the 470 dudes have sewn it up. 22 points up with a race to go. If they finish worse than 5th it wont count so worst case they finish on 21 points. So if Spain win the last race then they also win the medal race and we come last, we miss out. Otherwise its gold to Australia
