Nice, thanks! By my calculations, even worst case (Spain first and first, Aus >5th and last) would leave the teams equal on 41 points. What is the countback system in sailing? My maths might be wrong but it looks like the 470 dudes have sewn it up. 22 points up with a race to go. If they finish worse than 5th it wont count so worst case they finish on 21 points. So if Spain win the last race then they also win the medal race and we come last, we miss out. Otherwise its gold to Australia

That was an unbelievable finish to that final race!NZ miss the gold in the mens 49er by 2 seconds. Bugger
Handing it to GB. Double bugger
Isn't the final race double points?Looks like the Swedes will win Race 10 and go into Silver position 20 points behind Belcher & Ryan
Which would mean outside of a DSQ in the Medal race it's another Gold in the 470
YepIsn't the final race double points?

Not surprising considering the Brits have absolutely owned the Finn class since Sir Ben AinslieYeah but we are home for gold unless they dont finish the race.
Bloody GB are probably going to get one in the Finn here too grrrrrr.

Don't stuff up and false start tomorrow boys.
I think Wearn could even afford a DQ, so it did not matter once he'd started. The 470 pair could hypothetically lose it if they were disqualified and second place wins it, so maybe they will be more conservative.I noticed in Matt Wearn's medal race that although he was obviously conservative and took little risk, he was still mixing it up at the top, sailed fairly close to the marks, and finished third in the race.
Is there anything preventing a sailor assured of a gold medal to just wait a couple of minutes, then sail very far away and round their marks with plenty of room in between and finish clear last by 10 minutes?
