Hawthorn simply can not compete with an accountable team with a strong defence or a hard-running midfield, and can't play interstate. Look at the teams they have lost to

Brisbane (Gabba) - Played crap
Bulldogs (MCG) - Both midfields got lots of it. Bulldogs kicked it forwards, Hawthorn kicked it backwards
Fremantle (Subi) - Played crap
Sydney (MCG) - Shut down
Adelaide (AAMI) - Shut down and played terribly
St Kilda (TD) - Shut down and outgunned

The Hawks should be around the 6-10 mark on the ladder. They have over-performed this year and opposition teams are now working them out. They will be a powerhouse team in 2-3 years, but not right now.

You are probably right that we ain't ready to challenge but were still the only team yet to lose 2 in a row & probably the only team other then the cats to have a bad patch through the season which might be coming now in saying all that we might be suffering your problem from earlier in the year, injuries, yes there not to your extent but when your young they mean a hell of alot so when you have 5 out of your best 22 aswell 1 or 2 who would replace those 5 you ain't going to be super.

Is it just me, or are the Hawks rubbish ? Watching them tonight, I just dont see how they could be a genuine Top 4 side.
We made a lot of mistakes last night which is uncharacteristic. We have been the team with the most effective disposal rate but last night we were in a world of clangers. Bad goal kicking to boot.

I don't think that we were prepared for the Saints attack on the ball.

The massive positive for me was that we played an awful game and only lost by 17 points.

Very big of you to make comments like this after the match.

If you felt this way, it'd have been interesting to see you make comments like this before the match, but as is the case with most fans, these comments are rarely made beforehands.

I think that we are better than what we showed on Saturday night if that's what you mean. We have been very good around half back this year and you could see that Lyon targeted that area. We shouldn't let that happen to us again.

I guess we'll find a bit out when we play the Kangaroos this week.

OHHHHHHH WHEN THE SAINTS!
Oh no its more than that! Its six words that matter! "How many flags ave you won?" Dont worry hawks fans take all this saints crowing as a backhanded compliment!!They obviously highly rated the hawks coming into this game game! And are currently in a orgasmic state at winning by less than 3 goals! Once again another bunch of supporters celebrating a mediocre position on the ladder!!

Well done to the Saints. We were dam lucky to get within 3 goals considering general state of play and we were outplayed and outcoached on the day.

Going back to the original title of the thread, its a bit early to suggest any one team is better than the other. Hawks have had a very consistent year and thats why we are third. You don't fluke 10 wins. But we are very young and not as seasoned as your mob so it would not be a surprise to see us fall a few more rungs and you guys climb up. StKilda are also further along in their development with guys like Kosi and Riewoldt who have been in the system a few more years than Roughead and Franklin.

At the start of the year I pencilled this one in as a loss so I am not surprised by the result. However its a long season so best of luck to your team and here is hoping we meet again in September :thumbsu:

Good onya champ, thats a beauty! You should be proud of yourself! Never heard it before - you must have been speeding up to the eyeballs to stay awake since that devastating defeat on Saturday night to come up with that one. Is this the best you have seriously????

We did rate the hawks highly, thats why we're so bloody happy to have beaten you! Nothing backhanded about it. We were also happy to beat the Crows and Eagles!!!

Don't give a rats about the difference mate, we have to win a certain amount of games to play any games in September, it's not all about you.

You daft twit! You lost. Get over it! It was one game out of a whole season! If this is so devastating for you, how will you cope being knocked out of the finals?

Actually you'll find that in the team boards the onus is on you to show respect to the supporters of that board.

You've got your own team board, the main board and Bay 13 if you want to partake in a little game of how many premierships have you won.

While you can take some backhanded compliment as you please, much of the emotion of our win was to "Scoreboard" those Hawks posters who were cocky, arogant or downright rude:

hawthorn by 54 points ....and then some
Do you guys think Lyon will play that extremely ugly game he employed last time because you were undermanned and wanted an honourable loss?
I really hope for both sets of supporters this is a high scoring belter of a game. With 117% it will hardly be the Hawks who drag this game down again. I really do think you guys will choke this game again,as it's your only hope of a win. Look what Adelaide & Sydney did to us with success, the two ugliest brand of footballing teams this season.

Win ugly or don't win at all, will be your only chance this week.
On paper you would say hawthorn by about 7 or 8 goals and if both teams play to their potential then this should be the result. However if Lyon brings out his Plan A of flood at all costs and choke the game up it could come down to the wire and then could go either way.
Just wondering what sort of DUDS the Saints are going to pull out to play on the Roughie, Buddy Love, Crawf, Mitchell, Lewis, Hodgy, Sewell etc.

The only certainly is that Croady will towel up the Roo and Buddy love will kick St Kilda's season into next year!!!!!!!
Even if you win you will not play finals this year.

You blew your chance to win a flag in 04-05 and now your premiership window is slammed shut where ours is just about to open and should remain open for 3 or 4 years if we can keep the team together.

Still a bit of improvement left in us yet still a fair few of our players are inexperienced or still young.

Should be a close game tonight but i think we will outrun you and win by a few goals. May the best team on the night win.

and yet look at the result.

Wow, Hawthron **** around with the ball a lot and really over-possess it. They flood back and then leave no one forward to kick too.

I cant believe the stats when it says we had 30 more possies for the game ?!?
I actually agree that we over-possessed the ball and went sideways too often instead of moving the ball more quickly and directly. However, how do you explain that not only did you have more possies, but less inside 50s as a result of those possies? Do you think your guys are over-possessing also?

Serious question.

To some degree. But both sides flooded a bit, and there was a fair bit of chipping around to find an open man to switch it to from both sides as well.

The most astonishing thing to observe was how the Hawk forwards kept the box formation, even when it meant the rest had flooded our 50. That looked weird ... and prevented you guys from using your running capabilities when you won the ball back, because there were no targets in the middle of the park to spot up.

I think the 17 point margin was a bit flattering on this occasion. But the run and strike power your young blokes have brought to your team will worry a lot of sides, us included, if they are allowed too much latitude.

fair point....

(cause you flooded more :p )

We looked more stable with the ball and a lot more direct when we did have it. I guess its easy to say otherwise when we won.

Hawthorns over possessing looked worse because of the number of times they went backwards.
