It is a fact that the saints had no effective forwrd structure yesterday. We need to get the G-train up front with Rooey and Milney supporting him.

We need someone that can take a contested mark & kick a freakin goal. Thats why they smothered Kosi from the outset to not allow us to have that oppourtunity.

It's got to be Gehrig or Ferguson in my opinion. Charlie Gardiner isn't good enough. Even Jarryd Allen. How have Ferguson and Allen been going for Casey?

We need one of BJ, Goddard or No. 18 up forward. Not sure which one.

Woody has been pretty good, but who is teaching these guys to kick??? Woody, Fergie, Roo, Kosi, Raph, Chucky - just not good enough.

That's the one thing about Gehrig - he always seemed to find a way to thread them through the big sticks.

We are kidding ourselves if we think Ferg or Allen would have had any impact on that game. Probably not more than Gwilt did.

Allen remains a good prospect for the FUTURE, not for these finals.

At the very least they're bigger bodies who would be able to hold their ground.

Ross Lyon's comments :

As for another thought of key forward Fraser Gehrig returning for his first appearance since round eight – he has been sidelined with a hand injury – Lyon said the 'G-Train' was not an option.
"Fraser's highly unlikely," Lyon said.
"Over the last five weeks, we've been number one in defence and number four in attack and over the last 10 weeks, we've been number two in defence and number seven in attack, so those numbers are reasonable.
"So we're not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater here."

As much as I would like to think Frase is the answer, I just don't think he is. We all saw X come in under done yesterday, the G-Train hasn't even been playing in the twos.

I got very excited seeing Goddard moved forward after half time yesterday but unfortunately he needed to plug holes in defence soon after. If we had another option in defence he would be our answer.

Allen would do more than Gardiner did, give the kid a go. Fraser Gehrig is gone, get that into our heads, if he plays this week, it won't be doing any good for the club whatsoever.

I seriously think that we should have played G-train and Rix this week......

Should have just sent 'em out there to KO as many of Geelong players as possible, starting with Ablett, Corey, bartel, Selwood, mooney<,Stevie J,......... Hell they should have just KO'd the whole frigging team!

NO THANKS - need to move forward not backward Saint77 for mine.

Just go with what we have now and then re-structure in the off season

Oh ok, so we sacrifice a final's game for a player that may or may not prove good enough? Im sure one game will not hurt the development of a young player. Imo, we have been playing Eddy far too long, he has little impact at all (except the Essendon game). Remember, average players look good in winning games, but look very bad in loosing games.

I definately would like to see G there.

The other problem is our structure. All this flooding stuffs up the forward line structure. This means, it is very difficult to run back to the goal square after flooding to the middle of the square, then try sprint back and provide a lead because...

A. Your totally stuffed/spent.
B. By the time you run back, so has the other team, so try marking in a flood.
C. We dont move the ball from the backline to the forward line fast enough. Its not a smooth/fast transition like it was in 04-06, because we're not in the right positions, but we do this because this is they way Ross wants to play.

S4L...mate I reckon H.Shaw and Didak have a better chance of playing this week.

There is NO WAY the G Train will play this week, the next or the next - its OVER I'm afraid.

Need to quell this thread as it ain't going to happen - although I take on board some of your other points

What's with this stuff about dropping Eddy? The poor kid's played his heart out and had a team high 8 tackles for god's sake, he was much better than the Clarkes, Chucky, Gwilt, McQualter (whoever he was tagging smashed the shit out of him) etc.

No chance. G-Train was past AFL level this year. Was worth a shot for pick number 57, but it just did not work out. Bad luck.

Reckon
that we should turn maguire into a forward when he comes back? Looks as though the new rules could be diffict for him to adapt to. Only problem is who replaces max when he goes. Could be the answer up forward though as he can take a mark and has been known to push up the ground...

I think we will b okay aganst the pies and then hawks if we can make it. Better to lose to Geelong at the start and beat them at the end if we get that chance.

I think Goose will be OK, as he used his body more than his hands even before the rule changed. His kicking would be an issue as a forward, as he's more a "kick it 50m" kind of player. I remember when they put him forward (against Dogs?) and he led out and marked. I thought this is great - another forward option!!! Then he shanked it out on the full from directly in front.

I reckon we need all the KPB we can get Squizzy. Once Maxy goes Goose really needs to stand up for the team or else we'll be the new Kangas defence.

Yep, here's something i posted about forward structure in the other thread i think would help.

I actually think swapping Kosi and Roo for a few games wouldn't be too bad an idea. Our forward coach should tell Kosi where to lead and how to take a mark on the lead. this would make kicking to him much easier and he wouldn't need to take those massive pack marks which are low percentage. This means on a Kosi off day he'll be a lot more effective than he is now. This would take a lot of hard work however, which i don't think he's willing to do.
